  • Renew Interior Trim

My 'Tiva goes in the paint shop Monday. I decided to redo interior trim. Heres how. All the products I use are Dupli-Color. I've done this on several vehicals, & it last, no peeling. this is for plastic panels on interior. 1st clean well, & let dry. 2nd use ADHESION PROMOTER, 3 coats, 3rd. use VINYL & FABRIC COATING , comes in different colors,I used Grey, A little dark but I liked it, 4th. use TRUCK,VAN & SUV Clear Top Coat, Protects color & glosses a little. I left out proccedures, so FOLLOW DIRECTIONS on cans. It looks great, covers a lot of discoloration a marks.
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!

I have been wanting to try Dupli-Color on some panels. I think there are two Greys, do you know which one you used specificly? Got any pics?

+1 on pics. Even though I've done this myself I really want to see how everyone else's looks.

I used the same process awhile back inside my festiva. this link shows how it turned out, although I never took complete pictures. The carpet is grey and the grey accent peices on the dash are now a gunmetal grey.

Look at pages 1 and 2

Discuss enhancing your Festiva or Aspire interior and exterior (including custom paint, bodywork, seats, etc)

I used a similar method. Except after cleaning the panels I just sprayed them with Krylon Fusion spray paint (for plastic) I only did two coats since I didn't have money haha. It's held up rather well. If I was to do it again, which I will, I'd do probably 4 coats. Which would probably be like 3 or 4 cans. I painted the back panels, The door piece, the seat belt track cover and escort dome light. It's satin in color. I like the look.

It wasn't that bad IMO. I think it progressively got better as the paint fumes filled the air. Lol.

The worst part is cleaning all tha accumulated crap from all the years of other owners. Ever who had this 'Tiva before really, really smoked heavy!!!

Yeah I had the same issue. I just threw them in the tub and washed them up real well. Fortunately I didn't have any deep gashes in my panels so they look nearly perfect except a few spots that had some issues from the sun wouldn't take the paint well? I should have sanded it a bit.
Definitely worth it though to take the time and clean them and repaint.
I was worried my car would smell like smoke forever. I nearly pulled everything out of the car and cleaned it up. Smoke free now!
