Tach Cluster

i see someone posted to disconnect the speedo cable from the transmission.
Does this allow you to pull the cluster out enough to disconnect the cable from the back? I tried pulling the cluster awhile back to look at the lighting (i want to make it brighter) but couldn't get to the speedo cable.
