Rhino liner or under coating?

I tore out my carpet because it was nasty and had a ton of oil in it from my new motor that I put in the back.

My question, is what would be better for replacing the carpet? I dont want carpet and so these are my two options running through my head.

Any other ideas guys?

I can throw a few more options that won't leave your head spinning from the fumes...since your second idea will probably smell like tar whenever the sun heats up the interior.

You can cut a board (or cut it in half so it's each half is easier to install & gain access under it) that fits in the rear cargo space. Then you can coat/wrap/upholster the board(s).

You can use carpet for the boards, like the "outdoor/patio carpet" sold at Homie Depot....I know you don't want to use carpet, but these outdoor carpet is more vinyl or polyester than fabric.

Or you can use a big rubber mat. Or whatever other material you can find.

BTW, you can also get some pieces of diamond plate (the non-polished stuff is usually not that expensive) & attach it to the boards...we used to do this a lot for the engine bay flooring on older yachts.

I would use some sort of bed liner. That is what most people use for the interiors. I don't think most undercoatings are recommended for interior use.

Duplicolor offers a kit for about $100 called Bed Armor. It's one gallon of liner and comes with all the stuff you need to apply it. I think when it comes to Rhino Liner specifically, you have to go to an authorized dealer to get it, and that will cost more than doing it yourself. Before you go any route, make sure that the product you use will be ok to use in the interior, that way it doesn't make you sick.

Bed liner FTW. That's what I used on the floor of an S-10 after I replaced the floor pans. I got a quart at Ace Hardware. It was enough to do 2 coats from rocker to rocker.

I can't remember the brand right now. It was a couple years ago. Ace was the cheapest at the time I did it.

Undercoating will stay kinda gooey and smell like a freshly paved road.

I used a couple of cheap paint brushes and "dabbed" it. Gotta keep it stirred or the rubber particles tend to settle out.

I think I'm gonna go with the hurculiner bed coating! I need to find something though that will cover the sharp edges of the metal inside but I will figure something out

get one of those giant rubber mats they use for bed liners & cut it to fit!

I dont want carpet, I tend to spill alot of things and it just goes right through... and I have a truck to haul stuff, it was jsut such a long drive and wanted to save money on gas

i just did this last weekend, i used etching primer on top of the paint and bought some spray type bed liner, so far seems good, i may go over it with a coat of the dupli color bed liner to give it more texture. the aerosol didnt offer much texture.
