Clock Delete 12V/Aux-In Hub

Bebandit hit it on the head. This is just to say that it can be done, and anyone who can mod this idea and make it their own has done what I had hoped this thread might do: Continue to bring the Festiva into the 21st century.

My JVC KD-R720 will arrive on Wednesday. It has both front and rear usb/aux ports. I plan to attempt the install of 12Vdc outlet and stereo USB/AUX and charging USB in the Clock Delete. Will post photos if/when complete.

Cool ideas!

One thing I found on my 1500 mile round trip to GA was that the cigarette lighter socket plug for my Garmin GPS was right where my right knee wanted to rest to keep the accelerator pedal at a steady pace. It was a nuisance to watch my right knee and keep it from moving or breaking my cig lighter plug in.

As for "moving the Festiva into the 21st Century," I agree that there will be more and better electronic connection choices to be developed and improved! Ya'll are already on that road!

Yea the lighter is not really in the most convenient place for plugins.

And we will literally be on the road in Old Yeller bright and early :coffee2:
Friday morning for our almost 3,500 mile road trip. We needed places to plug in 2 cell phones one ipod, one GPS and one laptop.
Hope this works out OK.

I made one of these with just a line in and 12v plug. Works very well, will add photos shortly.

After reading this thread, I understand some dont like the fact that it will be out in the open. So maybe there is a way to fabricate the piece with a piece of sturdy plastic. Then fabricate the original cover plate to open and close to conceal the power supply board. I dont know if it is feasible, but just a thought.

That's a pretty cool idea, and could be a feasible one, if there's room. As far as USB, there's a way around everything! With 1990new's discovery, a quick match of wiring will allow him to designate one of these USB plates to link to his stereo.


This can be found HERE. It's meant for computers, but can still be cut and mounted accordingly, and there're your USB ports! By the way, that second one (if you want to get absolutely crazy) can be a throughput to a laptop in the passenger seat... Note my sig!

You idea about using the original cover plate to hide the outlets had already crossed my mind...but not for the same reason. My thinking was that my install job might not look as neat as D1's illustration, but I might be able to cover it up with the original cover when not in use.

Clock Delete 12vdc/usb extension install.

Here are some pictures of my progress on installing a remote 12vdc/usb in the Clock Delete. Not complete yet because I am waiting for my radio head to arrive so I can pull through the Ipod cable that will connect via usb to the back of the stereo. (JVC K-DR720).

Installation complete with pictures

That's how my stereo is. I took a spare hard drive I had and put it in a casing and formatted it to hold my entire music library. Then I can still plug it in to sync it with my comp! It's basically a huge 250gb mp3 player :p it works great! Then I just keep it sitting in the glove box

My stereo only has a usb in (with an Ipod adapter). So anything with a 2.0 usb can be plugged into the stereo. ie. flash drive, external hard drive, or throw the ipod adapter and plug in your ipod.

The only thing that sucks about using an external hdd you can't make playlists easily because everything is in folders. But I found labeling them 1. rock mix 2. ghetto fabulous 3. etc etc that way they are at the very top and easier to find.

I have a Pioneer DEH-p4000 in my Festiva, and it has an aux input on the front and a usb connection on the back. I originally used the aux input but then also had to have it hooked up to the charger. Now I have a usb extension coming out at the back of the center console and I plug my iPhone into that so I can stream Slacker Radio and charge the phone at the same time. Now I only have one cord to deal with.
