  • Escort dome mod

So today I went to local WY and picked up a few goodies. I got a cup holder, dome light and a clock.

So this is the clock I picked up, fits nice and don't seem to be that hard to make it work.

so now for the roof light! I thought I'd read all the post about doing this mod, but I guess I over looked the fit up part. So after cutting the headliner in the wrong direction, I figured it out. If you do this mod ( which is very simple) only cut forward of the original hole. As you can see I cut a little to far back when I was going the wrong way with the light. But on the bright side it all works perfect!

What did you take the clock out of? Does it tilt up some or is it straight forward?
Was the dome light plug and play or did you have to change the plug?

I'll guess '90-'94 protege on the clock. They are in the front of the dash and don't "look" like they would fit at all till you pull it out and find that the tabs where the screws go are angled perfectly to fit right there. I think its the same as the overseas dash clocks everyone loves its just that in the states there are no cars to get the nice finishing piece over the top of them. I've used a couple protege clocks in my cars with no problem. As a side note they are available in green, orange and one blue I found that I wish I still had, don't know what happened to it after I pulled it out of little blu a long time ago

The dome light was plug and play. Had to pull some extra wire free as it's taped down over by the drivers door. With the extra wire length freed up it was simple to complete the mod. Just go forward not backwards with the light or you end up like me with to much cut out back. The clock was from a Taurus wagon if I remember correct. I'm going back today I'll double check what it came out of.

Ok so I went back to the car I got the clock from and it was a Mazda 323 1989 model. And now I'm going with a different cup holder mod too. I'm going with this style

I'm liking it better than the Taurus cup holder.

So here is the clock working! Very easy to hook up, and I have a plan for cutting the cover with a CNC mill at school!

The tilt is the same compared to the Festy clock ?

You say the dome was plug and play, do you mean you had to pull extra wire free in the Festy to make the plug reach? I think that is what I had to do in mine but it has been so long.

Looks like a mid 90's Protege console.

I can verify that. It is the early to mid 90s protegé. I was thinking about how well it would fit on my last jy run. Can't wait to see how it works out for you!

the two wires that plug into the dome light are glued to the headliner over by drivers door. I had to pull the wire free from the glued stop, than pull some of the extra that's just hanging out up there over to the dome light hole. Plenty of wire to do this mod, then just plug it in and rescrew it to the roof cross member. I had to remove a black piece from the dome light, it unsnaps. I only used one screw to remount the dome light, the ground screw in the middle. easy mod!

I have the dome light....was trying to remember what car was the plug and play one. Other have been getting the escort ones and have to cut and splice.

What did the clock come out of and is it the right tilt for our cars? The ones I have been able to find here are close but not completely right. I have a couple of the right ones from over seas but color options would be nice.
