  • '89 air conditioning?

I know a/c was an option on the '89s, but is it possible to add air to an '89 that did not come with it stock? Would it even be worth the time or money?

We have a baby on the way and my wife is putting the pressure on to sell the Festiva and get something with air. Florida summers are hot, and I can't blame her, but sell the Festiva? That's a hard pill to swallow.

Yes, it is possible to add A/C to a Festiva. There are How-To's on removal and installation in the "Other Articles" Forum. If you can find a system in a Salvage Yard for a reasonable price it is totally worth it. It isn't very hard to remove from a donor and the install isn't too hard either. And Florida is full of members so if you need help I'm sure somebody will give you hand.

neanderpaul recently finished a/c in one of his rides.

In the meantime get some of those beaded 1970's seat covers. They work out here but not sure if it does with humidity. BTW location helps a lot in your sprofile. When people see youa re closeby helping hands help a lot

Awesome! Just called a junkyard nearby and they have two Festivas, don't know if they have a/c or their condition, but its worth a shot.

Some 88's also had A/C aswell. Mine does. A cool option for a car that was built in the 80's especially being a festiva.

So does the dash need to come out doing an a/c conversion? Also how about converting over to r134? Has any one done this? Whats neededto convert the compressor?

yeah it's easiest to remove the dash for install and about converting the system to R134, you should get all new nitrile 'o' ring seals, and then have the system pulled down to a vaccum for at least 30 min to purge any moisture in the system. charge with some PAG oil and fill to 85% of factory capacity. NO compressor mods needed.
