I'm sure there is somewhere deep in the vault of festiva lore!
Depending on how tall you are, it might not be worth the effort if driving comforts what your looking for.

I've done it. You only get approx 2-3" of travel. Prolly won't see me do it again though it really is easy. Just a lot of swapping.

Search for "tilt steering" in quotes.

I'll do a write up right quick. Unplug everything from the column, unbolt the u-joint from the bottom of the steering shaft, take out the four bolts that hold the column in, then curse a lot while untangling the wiring and wiggling the column out of the dash. Then put the new column in by reversing the steps. There is no difference in how they bolt up, its just take one out, put the new one in. You'll probably want to swap your ignition switch over to the new column while you have it out, otherwise your old key may or may not work in the new ignition on the new column.

Once your done you can enjoy the fact that you can now drop the wheel down to hit yourself in the crotch whenever you want

I'll try to remember to take a pic of the tilt wheel in my wife's car (came like that from the factory) when I get home, but I'll probably forget. Hopefully that was some what helpful...
                No festiva for me ATM...

Hey good quick wright up, straight to the point, now about hitting you in the crotch, my 90 LX column drops down about an inch and does not tilt. The only reason i have one is to say i have it, not because of comfort.

And was this only on the 89-91 Festiva or can the column come from a 323 or???

hmmm... the one in wifey's 88LX only drops about an inch and a half maybe, but it still hits me in the crotch. Maybe I have a bigger crotch :-P

This is for an 88-93 Festiva. The 88-89 is actually a little easier because you can take out the part of the dash directly below the column allowing it to drop all the way out rather than wiggling it out of the hole in the dash (requires less cursing than the 90-93 cars). Also, I have no idea about a 323. I vaguely remember someone trying or at least comparing one once, but thats something you'd need to use the search function to locate.

                            I'll get over it!

Now since you were looking for a "How To" why don't you make one if you do the swap? I will even critic it and put it in the article section myself. But, you must have pics so it shows how things come apart and go back together.

Just do what I did and buy one that already has tilt installed.....then you can just keep driving and not have a Festy down.
