  • So I've got the valve cover off........

gonna hit it with the pressure washer as it looks nasty, was thinking about throwing some paint in there. I'm kinda old school in some regards,.was thinking black wrinkle paint, like old Cobra Jet valve covers. I think with the blue underhood body paint, it would set.it off.nice, especially taping off the raised ribs.

I've got some wax and grease remover to hit it with, will a scotch brite be enough to give it some tooth for the paint to stick?

How have you successfully prepped a a/c prior to paint?

Can you clarify about prep to paint the AC, what is it you are painting.

I highly recommend you remove the baffle inside the VC so you can get all the crud out from under it.

After that I use Dawn Power Dissolver to clean them with. Spray it down and let is soak until it skins over (~30 min), then brush it a little and wash it off. Repeat as necessary but 2 treatments usually gets everything. After that I use a wire cup brush on a die grinder running at 30psi to knock off the oxidation and ruff stuff. Blow off with compressed air and you should be ready for paint.

Here's one I prepped and painted a week or so ago. It starts at post #47

I was thinking it was going to be kinda a strange paint job, but hey i've seen some strange things look good.

I tried to paint my AC one time and it made a horrible mess! Maybe I should have turned it off?
