Power rear windows

While I was collecting parts from Caravans, I grabbed a pair of rear pop out window motors. I don't have them mounted yet but I think they will work well. Wiring will be a snap also, because I had a remote actuation kit from another project laying around. The remote system is from Firgelli Automation and offers momentary on or latching settings. I will wire both motors to one channel and use the latching setting. One push to open both and one push to close both. I will take pics of the mods and installation.

I like seeing this project get bumped back up every few months... this time, it looks like we're going to get a full how to as well! Mind you, I'm fortunate enough (read as: tall) that I can open both from the driver's seat without too much of a hassle... but it would still be far more convenient to have a little button, switch, or dial to pop them... especially if there were one to do all four windows down and out!

The Process

First of all, when you pick up rear window motors from the JY, snip off a pig tail with the plugs to the motors. They are just two wire so reverse polarity changes direction. Also remember to take the buttons from the windows, they screw off. The motors are labeled L and R as they were in the stock locations, for our Festy's the Left will go to the right rear pillar and the Right to the left rear pillar. The position is altered for our Festy's, they stand nearly vertical. In the Caravan the buttons on the windows are sticky pad stuck to the window, with a threaded stud that the plastic button screws to. For our Festy's I turned a couple of delrin buttons to go outside and accept a 1/4" socket taper head bolt to mount the plastic ball socket inside the window. I used a remote system to control mine but a window switch from auto supply will function just fine. Both wired together works fine and at least for me I would always open them both if I want them open. So here are the pictures of the parts and how I installed them in the Festy.

As for the mounting of the motors, I used self drilling sheet metal screws. The lower one is in one of the stock mounting locations. The upper one is drilled through a webbing area that is backed by our Festy rear pillars. Some washers space it to provide tension against the rubber gasket in the closed position.

Bill, if you want a more finished look to your C pillar, find an '88 or '89 Festiva L in the 'yard and take the rubber plugs to put in your upper rear seatbelt holes. (This is if you aren't running rear belts yourself. You might have their top mounts off for your window mod here.)

so today at work (i work at a chrystler dealership...sadly) but there came through a 2010 town and country and instead of 2 switches for both sides they had the one switch to open both at once, and i thought about what was said about if you open you usually open both of them



its on the 08 and up town and country

That's a good looking switch, depending on the price? Otherwise if you check out the "HELP" displays at local auto supplys they have classic "70's" style GM window switches.

What year Caravans are those style motor in? I've looked at some before (along with other vans) a long time ago, and most were a motor way down low with a cable system. I'm headed to the JY in a few and I'll try to snag a couple for wifey's car. I can reach back there pretty easily myself, but she will find these to be helpful Probably will mount some sort of switch in one of the empty dash blanks (she has rear wiper and defog, but that still leaves two spare slots )
