  • Cup Holder : Write Up

Some details on the cup holder I recently shared (see below)

You can buy them from a lot of places online, but here is some ebay listings.

On both sides of the car, the below plastic cover is clipped over the top of your two dash speakers

As it turns out the folding cup holder I had bought for my S2000 fit perfectly over the speaker cover, which got me thinking how I could mount in this space. With limited tools available I tried to use parts that already existing rather than fabricating new mounts / brackets.

After trying to remove the plastic speaker cover I learned the clips are quite strong, so I decided to heat the plastic and bend it so that it'd be flat enough to mount my cup holder on. See below.

I had originally wanted to try glueing the two plastics together but after that failed the first test, I decided to utilise the 6 pre-drilled holes the cup holder provided. See below.

I was pretty happy with how things were looking so I bought some grey plastic paint & painted the whole setup - they grey isn't quite right so I may try match that better at a later date.

The Cost : About $6 for the cup holder online
The result : A functional & pretty tidy looking cup holder.

Bought some today off the bay looking forward to them. This looks like one of the better options to me.

I went to the "local" Bass Pro Shop today and I found them there for $8 after tax. Bought two. They were with the boating items.

EDIT: Rakfint, have you tested a full drink in the cup holder while driving on bumpy roads?

I haven't tested them fully no. The clips are pretty strong as I said, but I think something that would definitely help reduce chance of them bouncing loose of bumps would be chocking the gap at the bottom with something so it doesn't bounce as much.

Or you could also glue the clips in I guess, but i'd rather not do stuff like that.

Glad others are getting on board

Anyone else got theirs installed yet? For stability that people asked about i'd recommend fitting something behind the speaker cover (see below) this is just sitting there as a test, it improved the stability 100%

I should be getting mine soon, I bought two off ebay. I think I may try a slightly different method. I want to maybe get longer screws and extend the base of the cup holder out rather than adapting the speaker cover. I also have a plastic welder which may be of some use.
