Vacuum and RPM Gauges

I've been seriously considering getting a rpm gauge for my car, and i figure why not throw in a vacuum gauge for fun, who knows maybe it will help me get better gas mileage if i can watch it and keep it where it needs to be?!

I just have a stock b3, no turbo, so I was wondering if this vacuum gauge would work right..

Then, for the RPM gauge, i want it to match, I'm torn between these 2, I know I only need a 7 or 8k rpm tach, but the 10k tach looks like it matches the vacuum gauge better, and it's 10 bucks cheaper..which don't really matter, but it's a + so I was wondering what you guys thought.


/e actually I just looked at the 10k v 8k gauges again, the 8k has a different color round piece instead of the chrome on the other 2.. that decided it..

if i can get someone to confirm that's the vacuum gauge i'll go ahead and buy em both now...

I'm not sure exactly how or where i'm going to mount these yet, I can be pretty creative when I want to be tho, I was kinda hoping for some constructive ideas to pop up in a thread here somewhere, so any thoughts are welcome.

My friend had those gauges. They are terribly inaccurate. Get some autometer ones.

Autometer is expensive but it's worth it. I run all sunpro and my boost gauge sits a pound and a half off when not running so I doubt it's accurate. There cheap but give a good idea of what going on.

lol, the cheapest autometer gauge i seen was 60 bucks, the rest were 100 and up

no chance i'm spending that much on a couple gauges, i only paid 600 for the car itself..


flyin4stroke, what model is that pod made for? think i could make it work in an asipre?

I thought I saw some at autozone for 10-15 more per gauge. But unless your pushing boundaries of your motor I wouldn't sweat it get some cheap gauges that look cool.

It's a cut to fit model from autozone. Pretty cool it cuts with scissors and bend with heat. It was $35 which isn't too bad they have 2 gauge also.

Also check out Harbor Freight. I was there the other night for the Insider Track sale and they had some sweet looking Autometer knock-offs for $15 each. I seriously considered buying a few

i was at a big autozone store earlier today (one that stocks more than the other local places) checkin out the tachs and buying my LCA.. they didn't have anything i'd consider buying really, the gauges were all 4" and bigger lol, i'm not "driving a dodge neon claiming i ran NOS hoses in the coolant lines and i smashed the top of the gas tank down to hide the bottle so the cops don't pop me" LOL.. that really happened tho.

I'll go back to azone here local and see if they have anything that'll work for a gauge pod. I'll hit up harbor freight too, it's a 1/2 mile drive from where i work. thanks guys

I bought 1 of each of those HF gauges quite a while ago. Haven't used them in anything yet, but I'm going to test their accuracy soon.

i had those in my car for a while... they are very good gauges good build for the price... not as good as autometer... but for the price you cant go wrong...

As I said, I thought about picking up a few of them but "Harbor Freight" and "$14.97" made me a little apprehensive about it. I may have to pick up a couple now to try out :thumbup:

I did notice that the oil pressure gauge was electric instead of mechanical which surprised me a little... especially for that price.

If I remember right, normal NA engines have about 18-22 psi vacuum at idle (and goes down as the throttle opens) Its kinda neat that it sweeps ccw instead of clockwise.

Stay away from that vacuum gauge, I have installed 2 in my Festy. In the sellers defense, they have tried to make it right, but the gauges are just junk. The first one came and I thought the dark glass was cool, I hooked it to a battery I had in the shop and thought nice, good looking face. So I install it in my cluster and connected the wires to an ignition hot that is powering three relays and the gauge lasted 3 seconds and went dark. I thought wonderful now I can't even see it with the dark glass, so I carefully loosed the aluminum band and took out the glass. Reconnected the gauge and it was so inaccruate that I left negative feedback for the transaction. It was replacing a 30 year old Brute vacuum gauge I had laying around, that gauge was notchy but accruate. I checked the vacuum with my Snap-on test gauge and verified my old gauge was accruate. The seller sent me another and the lighting also blew in 3 seconds, I tested the circuit for voltage first, it was 13.24V well within what an ignition hot would run at. At least the second gauge is accruate but is running with out a cover lense. It will be replaced with something else soon.
