I was wanting to get rid of the licorice diameter steerin wheel in my car, I really like my protege 5 steering wheel, I found some options at the wrecker today, is it possible to fit on a steering wheel from another Mazda? I'm sure they would interchange, I look like a goof holdin the wheel

I got my rx7 style steering wheel out of an older mazda pickup. don't recall if it was a 2200 or what but I look in every mazda I can for these.
the only issue I had with it was the horn plate was about 1/16th off the pin. So I unscrewed the screws and took the plate off my old steering wheel and put it on in the extended part of the screws and it works great. If you can get the rx7 one get it as I think they're the correct length

I've run newer Mazda 323 and older Tracer steering wheels, as well as an older four spoke RX7 one.
I just got back from a trip to New York yesterday and I appreciated my stock Festiva wheel. Besides the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, I also can rest my hands on the spokes naturally, which makes for a very comfortable position when the road is fairly straight and nothing much is happening.
To do this on my RX7 wheel, I'd have to craft some pads or something, which I may do some day.
