Hah, that picture reminds me of a hippo? The color is really nice tho! What kind of paint did you buy that cost $500 for one color? I was looking on paintforcars.com, and they have acrylic enamel for 50$/gallon, but I won't be needing quite that much. I'm gonna see about getting out of work a little early today and checking with the local sherwin-williams on paint/colors. Apparently you can clearcoat AE paint and it won't fade..? I just have to talk to those guys I guess.

A hippo huh!? Lol it was $500 for all of the clear coat, paint, reducer, and filters, mixing cups, water/air filter, activator, all the good stuff you need to paint. It's just a ppg product nothing fancy. They wanted $1,000 for the actual ford color kona blue but I couldn't swing that. I'm not that good spraying yet. I bought a whole gallon which is 2 gallons mixed paint at 1-1 so i have too much but i will probably paint my jet ski the same color. Here's what car that color comes on.Last edited by Flyin4stroke; 10-30-2011, 12:27 PM.1988 Ford Festiva "Sonic" BPT g25mr MS2 standalone ecu, FOTY '11, Best Beater FMV, Fan Favorite FMVI

when i painted my spire i just used some cheapo foam sanding blocks i got at the dollar store to scuff up the factory paint/clear and then shot it with some rust-o-leum flat black. took about a quart of paint to do the whole car, turned out nice imo.
the day after it was done...
just the other day at work....about a month or two between shots

Alright, so I stopped at sherwin williams and they said they didn't carry auto paint, and refered me to the other local shop who only deals in auto paint.
I was talked into a base coat/clear coat system, which I guess is really what I want anyway, the AE paint fades because you aren't supposed to clearcoat it and pigments are exposed. They said they could and would mix the paint as AE, but base coat clear coat is better.
I was quoted just under 200 bucks for 3 pints of color (mixes 1:1 so 1 quart of each) 1 gallon of clearcoat, 1 quart of hardener and 1 quart of thinner. Pretty much out the door for 200 bucks everything included to finish the job, except primer, they said use any primer I want as long as the surface is scuffed I could even paint right over the factory paint.
I need help picking out colors tho, I don'tk now what colors these are in this pic.. someone(s) PLEASE help me figure out what colors these are.. metallic or not? blue black gray?! silver?! After looking up the colors actually on the car, the ones i picked aren't right.

The only way to know what colors those are is by the color code. But that looks like my old color sonic blue. Also the grey looks like metallic grey on the Harley trucks mentals color on his Festiva lighting makes all the difference also cameras are different so the only way to know for sure is the code. Find a factory car u like and figure out the code and go with it. At least that's what I usually do. That way you can see what your color will look like on a car. here's the difference in lighting the sun isn't beaming on the car.Last edited by Flyin4stroke; 10-31-2011, 06:07 PM.1988 Ford Festiva "Sonic" BPT g25mr MS2 standalone ecu, FOTY '11, Best Beater FMV, Fan Favorite FMVI

.... What kind of camera are you using that prints the DATE and TIME on your pics? :?:

Originally posted by zoom zoom View Postare you talking about sanding the base metal with 600, the primer, the paint coats, or the clear coat?
So far I've been using 60 grit for getting the clearcoat off, and it's working pretty good, I hit parts of the car with some wally world primer just to cover bare metal until i can get the rest sanded and ready.. will it be ok if I just primer over the cheap primer or do I need to remove it? also, should I go back over the car with a finer sandpaper than 60 before hitting it with primer?
I was thinking just leave it as-is, primer it, then hit it with like 220 grit, primer again, and sand with 220, then paint..maybe use some 400 on the paint coats..
pics of it so far..
sorry I haven't had time to crop/upload those most recent ones... this is what I did last week and during the week..
ALSO.. I really want to get new trim for the door/window & windshield, so if anybody has info on where to procure that stuff PLEASE, let me know. Doesn't have to be OEM or w/e, as long as it works and doesn't look horrible.A hunch is creativity trying to tell you something.

Yea the sonic blue does look pretty close, maybe a little metal flake in it in the photoshop pic? I wonder if you can get metalflake clearcoat? Idk i'll just have to go back and work it out. They gave me a general price range for ae and bc/cc paints, so anything I pick out of their huge selection shouldn't cost too much and still be in "the budget" when I walked in I wasn't shy about it, I told them that for 80$ a quart I'd just as soon use house paint lol.
Not sure what camera that is, it's a 12 or 15 mpx camera I got from walmart for my fiance. Most cameras have an option to turn time/date on, i think my phone camera even has it. I'll get the info on it later today if I get a chance. For the 80$ i gave for it it takes good pics, it's digital, and you can't tell how good the pic really is until you upload to your computer. The touchscreen is blurry when you first snap the pic. I think I seen it on sale for about 60 bucks last time I was in there.Last edited by zoom zoom; 11-01-2011, 05:04 AM.2008 Kia Rio- new beater

as far as the question about the camera:
LetsGoDigital is uw online magazine voor Technologie en Lifestyle, met het laatste nieuws, diepgaande achtergrond artikelen en product reviews
it's blue, I was wrong about the mpx, it's 14, with 720p hd, 4x zoom, 3" touch panel lcd screen.
Didn't get a chance to stop at autozone, I forgot about cub scouts tonite.. will update with more info later, but from what I can tell, duplicolor is an acrylic lacquer paint, not that that really means much to me, but google is saying it's pretty much outdated.2008 Kia Rio- new beater
