  • Instrument cluster

I want to put a new instrument cluster in my 93 gl but Idk what fits. What are some of the ones you guys are using?

  • #2
Only direct fit is one from another festiva... theres the orange ones and white ones without tachs, and theres orange ones and white ones with tachs. Orange were in 88-89, white were in 90+. Its also possible to custom make a cluster using parts of clusters from other cars (I'm partial to the protege stuff), but I don't know if thats what you're looking for, or just straight bolt-in and go.
    No festiva for me ATM...

you can also mod 323 clusters to work with a little wiring.
      Trees aren't kind to me...

      currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

The orange tach cluster and the white face tach cluster have both been direct swaps in my cars. However they are of American origin and read in miles instead of 'clicks'. I have never seen a Canadian car with a metric cluster with tach but there are folks importing European Mazda 121 dash clusters if I understand correctly. I have spare white face non-tach km clusters if you want/need one.

So far I havent been able to just bolt anything on this car so a little custom work isnt anything im worried about I thought it would be the only way to add tach and higher mph reading. Ive read on here about guys changing them before but I cant find the threads on them. You guys talk about protege and 323 clusters, what years are we looking at?
Thank you Bert but Im looking to add one with the tach in it.

Members take the speedo out of the protege cluster and swap into a white tach cluster. the complete protege cluster is a good 5 inches wider and wont work. I still have mine to sell, you'll have to dig down to summertime threads but i still have mine i wont be using. The 323 clusters are going to be the ones that look like a festivas the most, the later 1980's. I've been fond of those myself, how the speedo needle points downwards at rest.

fastivab6tg25mr has the protege speedo in his car, he can show how he did it it if you decide to get those pieces.

Here is the one I made with tach and speedo from a 90-94 (1st generation) Protege and the fuel and temp gauges from a festiva. I liked having a tach but wasn't a fan of the little fuel and temp gauges at the bottom of the stock festy tach clusters.

              Thread on it.

Discuss enhancing your Festiva or Aspire interior and exterior (including custom paint, bodywork, seats, etc)

The next one I'll do will be setup like a first gen Miata (probably even using those gauges lol)

If not I think I may have some old Protege gauges kicking around. I'll take a look maybe this weekend.

Yeah, should be about the same as using the protege gauges to fab something up. What does the Capri speedo register?

I think it was 140 and it was a shame the car only had about 125,000 on it and looked to be in really good shape it was like some one just parked it in the salvage.

How about putting the protege speedo in a non tach cluster? And would it be acurate on speed with the stock gear and cable? Sorry if I'm thread jacking here...

Yep, pretty easy to do, just need to make a custom face for it that matches the protege speedo readout, though I have seen one guy just paint over the stock numbers and bolt the protege speedo readout on over the painted part. Looks a little tacky to me though, since the corner of it kinda covers the highbeam light (I think thats the light it covers, its been a while).
