I was washing my festy the other day and found a rust spot on the passenger rocker in front of the rear tire. It was an area about 4 inches long by about 6 inches wide. I cut it out and welded in a new piece but I forgot to take pictures before hand, I will take some before I paint it. Im glad I found it now and not after it was half way up my quarter panel.

I noticed a small paint bubble (approx 1/8" diameter) in the same area on mine this spring. The last winter was brutal on vehicles up here. Seems like the State Dept. of Roads poured on more liquid salt last year than the last 5 years combined.
Might also want to check the lower radiator support, around the area of the engine cradle. That seems to be one of the first places to go.....Last edited by blkfordsedan; 11-14-2011, 01:06 PM.Brian

The best undercoating/lubricant/rust protection oils in Canada are RustChek, and Krown. They are really good but have to be re-applied every year because they displace water and they 'creep'. Do not think for even a moment that tar-based stuff is better. That stuff only dries out and then lets water underneath, in the long run, which only makes things worse.
Both products come in 400ml spray cans and 2 cans will thoroughly protect a car for the winter if you carefully coat all seams, welds, lines, joints and blind spots. Ask me; there are virtually no unprotected Festivas, or any other 20 year old cars, on the road up where I am, and haven't been for 5-10 years now.
