The membrane you guys are talking about comes in roofing form as well they are 24-36 inch by 100 feet. Any roofing supplier can get it, or probably has tons lying around.
They call it lots of stuff weather barrier etc. But yes its like a tar thats about 2-3 mm thick. It works good for sound dampening. Anything that changes the resonating frequency of a material will work, you just wanna lower the panel tone to inaudible. Below 30 hertz or so. Also helps stop transmission of sounds through the panel.

This sucks, I found something I dislike more than sanding. The MFM seems like a good product, I have never used any of this stuff before. A bit of work to get all the air bubbles out and for it to fit all the contours of the floor pans. Here is a pic of my progress, this took about 2.5 hours last night.
