Unfortunately, during my attempt to "unconcave" it, I managed to destroy the driver side long piece.

Try again, but mount it from the center outward to the edges. It won't take away the concave design completely, but the screws in each edge should take most of it out.

Can you get a pic of how they're mounted normally?
