  • Taurus Cup Holders

So a few weeks ago I went to the junkyard to pick up some stuff for my sisters car, after finding out none of the cars had what I needed I decided to look and see if they had a festiva. Sure enough, they did! Didn't need anything off of it, but right next to it was a 94 Taurus, remembering seeing a thread about the cup holders a while back I decided to look inside and sure enough there it was! I couldn't get the thing out (note to self- bring more tools than you expect to use to the JY). I didnt have a clue how to get the thing out so I gave up. As I was leaving I saw another taurus and looked inside it (thought I would have better luck with another) no cupholder, then I looked on the floor and there it was already removed, lucky me! So I got home and hit this site looking for pics and everything I needed to know.
    Here are the results-

I had originally cut it to fit where the radio is now but saw most people moved it, so I did as well before it was in. Glad I did.

Still needs to be cleaned but I was anxious to get it in.

With as many coins as I had in my car this was as welcome as the cup holders

Thanks to all the members who posted threads about the taurus cup holders, they were very helpful. I love them!

Also there was at least 3-4 more in other tauruses if there is enough interest (and some shared knowledge on how to get them out lol) I will go get them and sell to those interested.

Coat hangers. They slide into the holes on each side, and then you push them outward and pull toward you.

SOOOOOO many Ford radios got stolen in the 90's because that's all it took to take them out.

You cut the "U" ends, leave 2-3" on each side. Put your first and middle fingers in the "U", use your ring finger and thumb to guide the stems into the holes. Once they're in, shove inward up to 2", push toward the steering wheel and glove box, and quickly pull toward you.

I would be scared drinks will drip on your radio. It looks good though.

Taurus cupholders and early-90s Protege console w/cupholders are both good options. Nice job there.

Thanks I thought it was something like this but wasnt sure and didnt have the tools. I was kinda trying that with allen wrenches but wasnt working.

I thought the same thing but I'm not too worried about it, I'll just have to be careful.

Thanks, I was lucky to get my festiva from someone who took very good care of the interior (and the rest of the car).

Not sure how much it will affect anything, but it looks like your stereo sits low enough that you could attach a tin "hood" to the top of the slip-in mounting bracket and allow it to come just past the face of the stereo to catch accidental drips and slips.

And run up to Walmart to get the stereo tools and use per Christ's instructions.

They work better than coat hangers.

I keep the stereo removal tools in the car even though I don't need them. The shop teacher questioned me why I had them...
