  • Cheap Paint Job

I've heard about this rustoleom paint job that's supposed to be cheap and not take that long.
Does anybody have a detailed video explaining all the steps, etc. I could look at? I have no idea of what materials I would need, etc. Not only that, but I also have some spots where rust has taken over pretty badly, to the point where it has actually rusted into a hole. Is it best to just weld on a piece of sheet metal at that point and paint it? Thanks.

There's all kinds of how-to artcles on the web about the roll-on Rutoleum paint job. As for the rust, if there's structural damage then it should be raplaced with new metal.

I painted mine with rustoleum spray. Just buy plenty of tape and tape off what you don';t want painted. Also, spray a little at a time. Like do one front bumper, then door, then back panel. Do not go back to a spot if you see you missed something until the paint completely dries. It may even be the next day to do it. If you go back and it is starting to dry, the overspray will mess it all up. Like I said, you may have to wait till next day to go back to touch it up. Don't get in a hurry.

You can do a good paint job for $300. That's really not that expensive when it comes to the value of the car when it is painted nicely. My first whole car paint job I spent a little more than that the second time but the difference is its way better than it was before and it was good before
You just have to do a little research and learn how paint works. 2 stage paints can be sanded and buffed to perfection no matter how bad you paint it. The paint isn't that expensive because it gets mixed 1:1 so if you buy a quart that's 2 quarts spray able when mixed. Clear coat is pretty cheap too depending on the product.

I know it's not just that easy for everyone, places to paint, compressor and gun settings but you can find help out there.

It really is worth the extra effort if you have a straight rust-free car to use actual automotive paint. My '92 is a patched wreck so I used Rustoleum.

Sonic's wearing the paints! Nice job Flyin' 4 stroke.

I tried the Rustoleum roller trick on my hood, it came out looking awful. I left it that way for a couple of years.

I had a buddy spray the hood with some higher grade paint, recently.

The shine of Rustoleum doesn't last nearly as long as better quality paint. Also, it's not hard enough. It scratches easier. Of course, you can just buy another can and touch it up.

I'm not dawgin' on it by any means. GeorgeB's paint job 'rules in its class'. Love the color, Festus is going to be that color some day, or close to it.

I even lifted GeorgeB's pic to show someone else the color. Thanks George!

They are American Racing AR-62. Ya they are 4x114 but I have capri brakes up front. No snow plow, it just a tow bar but I put fog lights on.

I recently polished them but they haven't gone back on because I broke a tranny.
