Are you painting the plastic parts?
If so,are you painting them the same color as the rest of the car?
If you're painting them the same color, what kind of paint are you using?
(Sorry I didn't read the whole thread if it was mentioned.)

I bought the RUSTOLEUM.
The light blue colour.
So I will paint tomorrow.
Question though... what type of finish do I apply meaning what shine do I apply?"Today, no American family can be secure against the danger that one of its children may decide to become an artist"

If you are talking a "shine" being a wax, or someting like that...
DO NOT USE ANYTHING UNTIL THE PAINT CURES AND HARDENS Usually 30-60 days!
Even if it feels "dry" the paint is to soft to be rubbed on or have wax put on it until it is completely cured.Dan

For example if I was to paint with laquer I would be applying a clear coat... what is the rustolem version of that or could I use a laqure clear coat?"Today, no American family can be secure against the danger that one of its children may decide to become an artist"

Paint it. If it don't shine as much as you like you have a couple of options.
1) Wet sand and buff/polish the paint. Wait 30-60 days and apply wax.
2) Apply rustoleum spray can clear coat ( I wasn't able to find the clear in quarts or gallons, though it may be available)
#2 option would more than likely need to be applied soon after the paint. But I would imagine it could be applied after a couple of days to allow the paint to dry enough for wet sanding before the clear is applied.
I have only used clearcoat on a couple of enamel paint jobs. Both times the clear was sprayed as soon as the paint had "tacked up" and both times it was using a regular aklyd enamel automotive paint and clear with hardener. Basically a poor man's basecoat/clearcoat paint job.
Unfortunately the paint I used is no longer made due to strict regulations put into place.

Go to youtube and type in "how to paint a car"
BTW, I use Rustoleum, is good paint.
I have a drivers door and fender in the basement I painted Red and look showroom quality.
I am afraid to put them on as it will make the rest of the car look bad! :p
Now I want to paint the whole thing BLACK!Last edited by drddan; 08-25-2012, 10:47 PM.Dan

I could have sworn that Rustoleum does not need any kind of primer, just a good 320 grit scuff all over and thorough wipe down with mineral spirits and tack cloth. That Wagner paint gun looks like its doing a great job. I wish I had sprayed my Interlux with that thing.Semper Fi til I die!
