  • AS-1 line?

Well in looking for VA laws regarding tint (i want to put a strip on my windsheild) i found that it said the tint couldn't extend below the "AS-1" line on the windsheild. well i looked all over my windsheild and the only place with anything printed is the bottom drivers side... it has some numbers and stuff and at the end says "AS1". of course this is about 2" from the botom of the windsheild, so i'm sure this is not the line they were refering to!

    any one have any suggestions?
    thanks

In Ny I believe you can only have the top 8 inches tinted on the front windshield.

To find where the AS1 line would be isn't to hard.

Move the seat all the way back. Measure up 29" from the lowest spot on the seat and then directly horizontal to the windshield. That would be where the AS1 should be.

Should be roughly 3.5" if I remember correctly. I'm also not 100% positive on 29", but it sounds about right.

A little tip, try to contour the strip to the roofline.

If you have to lay the tint on the roof with just a bit over the edge. Cut along the top of the windshield's molding. Then move it down into position. This makes it so it won't curve downwards on the sides. Meaning, you won't have 4" on the side and only 2" in the middle. This gives you much more tint on the windshield. Of course, don't get discouraged by an uneven slightly jagged line. Try to smooth it out. Most of my customers don't care it's not perfect because they feel it looks better (from a distance) and functions much better.

Personally, I have the customer sit in the car and I move it up and down until they feel it's in the right spot. Some people tell me they want it 8" and quickly realize it's in their line of sight and we move it up higher.
