  • Toyota Starlet EP82 Projector Headlight Transplant?

just curious to ask people if they think these would be possible to put into my 1991 Ford Festiva.

I give you the 90-96 Toyota Starlet Projectors and grille.

Ford Festiva 1991 WA Model (5 Door)
Nicknamed the car 'The Chiva' (Chilli Festiva)

    Avg Economy:
    Highway - 7.32L/100km
City - yet to be determined.

This link works. Jawbraeka, that's awesome! It'd be different on a Festiva, for sure. My biggest question is, have you seen one up close (a GT), and have you guestimated the angles? Those signals look like they might actually work, but I see a lot of cutting involved. The price is high if you aren't certain you could make it work.

Great thing about the festiva is that the sheet metal under the headlights and surrounding area is more or less flat. That said, that set isn't something I would try. The grille is hopeless- there's too much curve and not enough height, and it's just about the same story with the lights. Very doable as far as bolting it all in, but it would take a LOT of fab to make it look good.

Did you guys get 7" round headlights in the early '80s Hilux? Because those headlight buckets bolt in with about half an hour of light work (I gotta do a writeup on those one day, it's the best way to put 7" rounds on a Festy by far), and then you can put in HIDs with something like this:

or any of the thousands of sealed beam-HID kits on the internet.

Now this I'd like to see. We are increasingly held for ransom in trying to locate and replace regular Festy headlamps. 7 inch sealed beam round lights have been around for decades. Where I'd find in intact donor Hilux would be a whole other story though.

Hilux was just called the Toyota Pickup in North America before they started using the Tacoma name. 78-83 is the year range for the body style I'm talking about, but some had square headlights. Still, the trucks aren't that rare. I've seen half a dozen of them at the local PNP.
And seriously, it looks like the car was made for them. You drill one hole, reposition the adjustable part of the bucket, modify the brace on the festy marker light and solder the electrical plugs on (friends don't let friends use butt connectors on headlight circuits). Like I said, I'll do a write-up eventually.
Best pic I have right now:

But of course I just painted it all so you can't really see the fitment details.
Putting those on was one of the first things I did to the car actually.

I have seen pics of this working before.. however they did say a little work was involved..

Here are some pics for the work i have seen done.

I'm thinking get a set of indicators to see if they are the same size as the ford parkers and then from there see if they fit with the normal headlights, if they do and there isn't much work in it, then i'm thinking fork out for the special headlights and see what needs to be done with the grille as i might sell that (i already have a buyer too) and then see if i can get a grille that will fit.

this is where i got the inspiration from too

so i'm assuming they can be done.. the grille is a Kia pride modded grille to suit.

so maybe the side indicators and a wire mod as well as the headlights.

Wow, I stand corrected. Starlet lights can definitely be made to fit without looking like crap. They didn't look like they were tall enough in that ebay picture.

You can use any 7" round light you want, they're universal. The Hilux buckets are just the best way to mount a 7" to a Festy, you'd have to get those from a junkyard. Others have had good results with early VW Jetta/Golf buckets, but that compromises one of the marker mounting points and it's a little more work. I'm using ordinary Wagner halogen sealed beams, they represent the best balance between brightness, color and service life IMO.
