  • Do non-locking fuel doors exist?

Just like the title says. I've got an '89 L and I have to stick the key into the lock on the gas door to fuel up. If I shaved the lock, there isn't anything to hold the door closed. No spring, no latch, no nothing. Is there a latch or ?something? that I can substitute for the lock?

I had mine shaved and I think Fred's is shaved as well...

My shop fabricated a system which was operated by my shaved door handle kit. It was a piece welded onto the back of the door and a "latch" which looked like a small button which got pulled by an actuator in the rear of the car.

You could rig something up from any number of cars that have non-locking doors, you'd just need to get them fabricated on.

take the lock out and flip it over so the latch is going the wrong way, then get a screen door magnet latch and bolt it in place of the latch on the body. the magnet once set right will hold the door shut just fine. to open the door, push on the other edge of the door and it will pop open, you cant use too strong of a magnet on it or the door wont open lol.... so don't use a neo magnet or something.... I did this to my car a LONG time ago and it still works great

I like this idea a lot. Low tech and easily done. Thanks, Sasquatch!
