Driver's door rubs against panel

Something about the driver's door on my car is out of alignment. The edge of it rubs the panel along side of it (the one over the front wheel), and it has scraped the paint off, leaving a brightly polished shine to the bare metal. It also put a nice dent in the panel too, and the worst of it is the screech that sets your teeth on edge whenever the door is opened.

I read something about how to raise the door up and down, but how do you lengthen the gap between fender and door so they don't touch and screech?

Check your gap on the other side of the door where it meets the rear quarter panel.

If the gap looks even then the door is in alignment and the fender is out. The fender can be moved by loosening up all the bolts and adjusting it until the gap between the door and fender is even.

If the gap is uneven then either your door is out of alignment or the hinges could be worn. To check for bad hinges just open the door and grab it on the latch side and lift up and down. If the door moves independently of the car even a little the hinges could be the problem. Compare this to the passenger door, they won't wear out as quick due less use. If the door is out of alignment then loosen the hinge bolts and adjust, get someone to help with this.

I had the same problem, just undo the screw that holds the front side bit on and move it out a bit, until the doors swings freely.
