  • New to forum and have a question... lol

Hey all, I'm new to the forum, bought my first festiva a couple weeks ago (89 festiva L with autotragic in it). Went to JY this weekend to get a spare and a couple other things... and low and behold, find a 5 speed on a 93 with 94k miles on it... so not only am working on getting the trans out this coming weekend, but took the cluster because the temp gauge doesn't work in mine.

My initial question is if the 93 cluster will just plug n play in my 89? Or will it just not work at all...

That might be it for now...

oh, is there an analog clock for the dash that's made? or just the digital one?

    Thanks in advance!

Cluster, I believe, will plug and play.

Digital clock only, and very rare.
    Going old school...

well... just thought an analog would look cool... but oh well... lol... thanks for the quick response...

going to try and clean it up nicely... maybe eventually swap the motor, but liking the 32.5-33.8mpg I've been getting with the auto the last few weeks... going to do tune up this weekend (valve cover gasket, plugs, wires, oil and filter, cap and roter, etc.) and hopefully get new axles and maybe clutch/flywheel and get that five speed in in a couple weeks...

If you like the 33mpgs with the auto you will love the 40's with the 5 speed. I averaged around 35-40mpgs with a BP and stock E-series trans. Or swap in the B6 with stock E trans and you will still be 40's but with some more oomph!

And I'll do that, haven't looked in regional yet... but that's probably a good idea too... thanks for the help so far everyone... and love this little car so far... had an idle issue that needed a little tuning on the cable as it was stretched, but we're good now.

And have a couple 4" and 5 1/4" speakers I'm going to put in there. I've always liked the look of factory in my vehicles, so I may end up running a little amp under the seats or something and then powering the speakers with that and keeping the factory radio, but we'll see.

Re-reading your first post, are you sure it's the heat gauge itself that's not working?

don't know if it's specifically it's the gauge itself... but it's simple enough to replace, thought I'd start there, plus I like the white lettering over the yellow you know?

if that doesn't start showing temp readings for me, then I'll try something else for sure... have never liked rolling around with a car whose temperature I can't keep an eye on

The temp gauge works by resistance, the one wire sensor on the front of the cyl head (near the Tstat housing) is for the temp gauge, if you ground out that wire, your temp gauge should climb to the max, that'd be a good way to test is the sensor is toast or not before replacing the gauge

But I can understand the preference for white faced gauges

that's helpful information definitely... I'll replace the gauges tonight (maybe, lol) and then if that doesn't work I'll try that.. and then grab a sensor if it's dead... thanks a bunch... much quicker responses and helpful information here so far than other forums (for other vehicles) in the past

I have an orange tach cluster already installed for a couple of years and a white tach cluster awaiting installation in another car. Took some getting used to (the orange colour) but I really do like the back lighting VS the front lighting of a standard dash.

That is the best part about the tach cluster if you asked me!

well I hope that I like it better... otherwise I'll be putting it back in (if the temp sensor is messed up and it's not the cluster)
