  • vinyl vs. paint and q's

so I want to do a few mods to my car, good old simple lightning/flames... and I want to keep it cheap. I figure I could work it with 4 cans of spray paint and a can of clear coat (plus tape/etc, and a lot of time over spring break)...
But I know a lot of people use vinyl. What are the pros-cons? How much would it cost to get two multi-color 40" x 16" (aprox) vinyl’s? More than paint?

Where and how do you go about getting custom vinyl? Even for other projects.

Depending on which way you guys think is best, I’ll start talking techniques... I think I know how I’d hafta do the paint so far as prep and all but I’ll run it by later

    Thanx!!

Paint will give you the best look overall, because you can layer it, shade it better, etc... A show car (or even a real modified car) will not use vinyl where paint can be used.

If you want something simple, easy to put on and fairly cheap, go with a vinyl cut out...

Like Simon said paint is better. No bubbles, no tears, no problems!
Is that a Festiva that just passed me?!?!?!

        ok, thanx to you two...
if no1 else has any input it looks like i'll be going with paint 8) Still not sure which would be cheaper.

I was really hopeing to do this over spring break, but thats in two weeks (well, OK, a week and a half) and its not looking like the best paint weather

I'm not really sure about painting, i've never done it before... so i'm trying to keep it 'simple'... closer to when i'm going to do it i'll post what i plan on doing exactly and see what you guys think

Trying to do multicolored flames with vinyl by yourself isn't easy.

          I'd go with paint personally.
