  • Hatch Interior Handle Idea

So my wife drives a 2012 Kia Soul. I drive it occasionally and its a very nice comfortable car.

But something sticks out to me. We have a Stroller in the back of the car and i am always opening the Hatch to get it out and closing it again. Because we live in an apartment its hard for me to be able to wash the cars so they get pretty dirty. (Especially in the Hatch Area)

On the inside of my wifes Kia there is this.

So i looked at the hatch in my car, because it also gets filthy and i don't wash it, and i am constantly opening and closing the hatch.

Im thinking something like this poor photo chop example.

Only issue is i can't find any of them on the internet. Im going to try and call KIA today to see if i can just purchase one thru them.

If i can and its cheap....ill cut a hole in my hatch and put the sucker in.

    Anyone else interested?

Don't you ever slam your fingers when closing it that way, though?

Heck.. I slammed my fingers yesterday.. and my hand wasn't even in the hatch, or so I thought. >_<

Ive gotten used to a particular way of shutting it. Funny my dad was over the other day and watch me shut the hatch of the kia. he was like. "Holy S#!&, you could loose a hand doing that"

I like the idea. My focus has one and I enjoy it. My friends Cougar actually has a strap that is attached that you pull on.

And just when I thought I was finished customizing! ...

          Kia part number please.

Either that or a linear actuator tied to a motion sensor under the rear bumper.

Looks like a really nice fit there...even looks like there is supposed to be something their on our hatch. I don't think I'd ever use this mod though. I like to make sure the hatch gets closed securely and that requires pushing it hard from just above the license plate.

My hatch will lock securely with only a release distance of about five inches. Everything is perfectly aligned to the latch.

Open the hatch, loosen the catch screws, adjust the catch towards the rear, and tighten screws.
Now your hatch will close much easier.

I had to slam my hatch, then one day the plastic above the plate cracked.

So, then I decided to adjust the catch ... after I cracked the plastic!!!!!

what about one of those fancy new "foot opening eyes" that are used in the newer cars.

i think the only thing you'd need to worry about is installing and RFID central locking kit so it unlocks the car before you wave your foot under the rear bumper.. and for those that have worn out lifters, a regassing or replacement of the lifter should allow the "all magic" boot lifting action that was probably present some 20 years before.. but with your FOOT!

Actually, I am quite content with the MPV actuator I installed in my rear hatch. Fesides, you have to step back after you wave your foot or else lose a couple of your teeth. This idea will be discontinued after a few lawsuits are launched against Ford. There's a difference if you do it to yourself or whether a linear actuator does it to you. Just you wait and see. Ford has a better idea.
