  • What Steering wheels from other cars fit the Festiva?

I am getting rather bored of the cheap aftermarket boyracer ebay steering wheel, and was looking at some steering wheels that look more factory, but are not the boring hard plastic stock steering wheel.

I hear allot of late 80s early 90s Mazda and Ford steering wheels will fit.

the Upullanpay has quite a few cars that fit this.

    They have 2 89' Probes, one a GT Turbo, and a 93' base model, 88' 90' 93' Escort, 91' Escort GT, 88' 91' 626, a 92' MX3.

Though I would prefer to stay with a Ford Branded wheel, because putting a Mazda wheel on it would feel like putting a Volvo Badge on a Geo Metro (I actually saw that the other day.) Or Mustang wheels with the galloping horse logo on a Taurus. (I have seen that too) I would only put the Mazda wheel on if all the badges on the car were Mazda badges. (Although I may, make an exception for the 88 626 wheel, as the mazda logo can probably ealy replaced with one that says Ford.)

Anyone know what other car steering wheels would fit?

    Moved to the proper section

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Which "boyracer ebay" piece are you running? I think the flat ones all look cheap and stupid IMO, and that's just my opinion. Not bagging on other people's tastes.

But, the deep dish ones, to me, look good if you shop around a bit.

The RX7 wheels fit, but they're flat too. I had one in my 323 sedan, but that was just to get away from the junky old Grant that someone had installed. It was falling apart, literally.

The Escorts won't fit. Don't know about the '89 Probes, never tried a 1g probe wheel. '93 should fit, as well as all the Mazda ones you listed. And you are correct about the '88 626 2 wheel assuming it has the little square Mazda piece in the center (which most, though not all, did). It will directly swap with the Ford emblem on the festiva wheel.

Now to address your other concerns, well, even though the Festiva isn't covered in Mazda badges it IS a Mazda (and a Kia for that matter). So its nowhere near the same thing as having a Volvo badge on a Metro. Also, I highly doubt that someone had Mustang wheels on a Taurus, unless they were running some kind of adapter (which, in addition to the offset would have pushed the wheels pretty far out past the fenders). Different bolt patterns. Probably just had the Mustang center caps. I have seen a few Taurus people running mid to late 90s Tbird wheels, and vice versa. Those share a relatively uncommon 5x108 bolt pattern. Ironic that you also mentioned Volvo, because they are one of the few other automakers who also use 5x108. Ok I'm rambling now. Signing off.
        No festiva for me ATM...

          For instance.
I have one of these if I ever get around to installing it, for the Escort.
          YMMV

That is basically the wheel I have, but the metal is black, and doesn't have the RS Type emblem. The red stripe has already faded on my wheel after like a year of use, and the stitching has as well but not as bad.

But I just got back from the yard, the 88' 626 wheel was a bluish color, and one of the horn button surround pieces was split in two, so I skipped it. (Also the emblem in the center is a circle, not the Square like on the Festiva wheel.) the 91' 626 had Mazda embossed on the wheel, plus it looked too "90s".
Escort GT wheel was too bland, as well as all the other Escort wheels. Which is probably a good thing since apparently they don't fit, even though an old thread I dug up said they did.

After looking at all the wheels I could, I settled on the Probe GT Turbo wheel. Those 1st gen Probes are nice, I like how they have the warning lights on the roof, above and in front the rearview mirror. Not an intelligent place to put it, but I like it since it is "Different". http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...beboost002.jpg (NOT THE ONE FROM THE YARD, just a random photo of the interior I found on google)

The one there looked like it had a good life, it was probably pretty well taken care of before being thrown there, had 286k miles according to the odometer.

Going to go try and install it now, along with the intermittent wiper switch I yanked out of that 91' 626.

Fully aware that the Festiva is a Mazda built by Kia, but something bugs me about having mis-matched badges on the car.

You are probably right about the wheels though, they probably were just the center caps.

I had a thread going about wheels because i wanted a center horn button. I ended up non oem and got a deep dish hello kitty jdm one. Old rx7 and bseries trucks are flat spoke look nice. Ive even seen airbag mazda wheels used
                  1993 GL 5 speed

It's a MazdaFordnKia thing, and you will understand!

1st Gen Probe wheel in my Festy

                    Phone camera's hate terrible lighting.

Much easier to steer in parking lots with the larger wheel, those small aftermarket wheels are better suited to a car with powersteering.

Nothing fancy, I wanted something more conservative, but not completely boring.
I don't know how people can stand using the stock Festiva steering wheel though without a steering wheel cover, that hard plastic is rough on the hands.
