I don't know if this is the place to ask this but, does anybody have remote start/locks on their festiva? how good are they? I was thinking of getting one with a 1 mile range for my festiva. I was thinking of also shaving all the key holes on the outside of my festiva when I get remote start/locks as all the key holes do nothing but bend and break my keys

But what if you go out one cold morning and the battery's dead? Don't shave them all!
On a side note, I got a complete, brand-new 3-door electric lock kit at a Goodwill (still sealed) for $3 a few months back. Likely will put in the '89 come Spring.. seems pretty awesome.

I have progressive power locks. They are a blast. Especially if you enjoy pushing buttons. I will not shave my door locks, because I refuse to get in from the hatch (in case of catastrophic failure of my junkyard battery). I have a shaved fuel door. You only need to buy a complete set of locks and install them.Last edited by bravekozak; 12-16-2013, 08:49 PM.

I've got RSKE (remote start keyless entry). Scytek kit, Astra 1000RS. Great range and customizable per application.
If you've got a manual trans, there are kits out there but they require you to do a specific sequence with the car running when you get out in order for it to remote start.-Zack

I know it's not a task a lot of people want or have the capability to do, but installing a RSKE system yourself saves a lot of money. I got my kit for $40 shipped and youtube can walk you through it.
I can offer help as well, having done three or four installs myself. I won't deny though, paying a bit to have it done in a day and not break a sweat might be great. I just have that IKEA effect wired in (you value something more when you 'create' it.. Interesting study on it, go google/read)-Zack

Id say it's worth doing it if you know you want your car to start in the morning lol. It would just honk a couple of times if you forgot.
In short: park with the car running and ebrake up, press the remote start button and the system will keep the engine running while you exit the car. Lock the doors and press the remote start button again to stop the engine.-Zack
