Tim, there's a complete tilt column in a dark grey '89 Auto GL at the Pick-A-Part on Wallisville. That's one exit north of I-10 on 610 East Loop. I saw it on Saturday. The same car has lots of grey interior parts including the map pockets on the front door panels and the rear wiper and washer bottle. I pulled the tach and distributor for myself.
Is it that one wayyyyy down there by a container company and has the business cards w/ the octopus? On Wallisville, what direction do you go in when you get off the Belt? To the back woods part where it becomes a two-lane road or the populated part where there's a Walmart and some schools?
The one I went to had very little as far as Festivas go - a few red ones and a mouldy black LX.
Tim, Pick-A-Part is the one with the Octopus cards, and yes, this yard is just a stone's throw from the Port of Houston, so there are lots and lots of containers around there. To get there from Friendswood, go North on I-45. Take the 610 exit North. Get in the middle or far left lane. Go over the Ship Channel Bridge. Go past the I-10 exit. Immediately past I-10, get in the right lane and take the Wallisville Road exit. Turn right on Wallisville Road and go less than 1/2 mile. The yard is on the right. As of this Saturday, there were five Festivas. One yellow one, three red ones, and a dark grey '89 GL. One of the red LXs they put out while I was there. They also put out a white Aspire in the early model (cheap) section if you wanted to grab the hubs and brakes. FWIW, Pick-a-part only keeps cars in the lot for two months, then crushes them. The grey GL was filled with pecans and it WAS moldy, but that's junkyards. And P-A-P is often the cheapest one.
Anyway, you asked. There's one there. It will most likely be crushed by next weekend. They're open from 8am-5pm every day.
Other things to note... There is a '91 XR2 with bad turbo seals there. It was complete on Saturday. There is also a NA Capri. Someone took the pulleys and the mounts are in the trunk, but otherwise, it's complete too. Of the four Aspires in the Late Model section, I had to mix and match parts off all of them to get a good complete rear axle. Also, two Escort GTs, one in each section, and a Probe GT (turbo) just put out in the early section.
They are all in the Early Model Ford Mercury section. As you walk into the yard the Late Model section is fenced off to the left and the GM section is on the right. As you get to the fork in the road, imports are on both sides of the left fork, and Ford Mercury are on both sides of the right fork. As you continue further back, you get into trucks and Mopars.
The Grey GL is on the left side of the Ford fork about half way back, about 5 cars from the road. The red LX is right on the road on the left. The other two red, a yellow, and a blue are on the right deep down the isles. The white Aspire is the deep-deep on the left side about a third of the way back.
FWIW, the column plastics, steering wheel, switchgear, and dash are the same for both tilt and non-tilt cars. So don't grab it unless you just want better pieces than you've already got, because PAP will charge for it.
Well, be careful everyone.. I just had a very bad experience there about 45min ago.. I scored a bunch of Festy scraps and came out and there was a guy tearin ass out of the lot shooting rocks everywhere.. I bitched at him a little and saw a car next to Zippy.. I went over cause it looked like the guy was opening his door on it.. The driver was in reverse waiting for the passenger to close the door but he didn't wait and dinged and scratched my rear 1/4 panel. When I saw my window down I realized Holy shit!! he was ripping me off!!! And I caught them red handed!! I ran to their car kicked it and ripped off the rear antenna then I jumped in the car and the chase was on.. didn't catch them though. Traffic helped them and kept me from getting on the road for about 1 minute. I looked for about 20mins. I got home and inspected the damage.. they cut all the wires to the radio and cig lighter. Broke the Radio bezel stole the pioneer am/fm/cd player, they took my old workbook which had old canceled credit cards and expired id ss card and pics but nothing that was used or detrimental besides maybe some try at identity theft. They got my software keycode book which can also be replaced.. they scratched and bent the door pryin' it open... glad I left the pistol at home.. knowing me I wouldn't have wanted to roll in the dirt with it and would have stashed it in the car giving them something to shoot someone with... whew! Not a good way to start the week..
they both had paper plates.. oh and the guy burning out in the gravel had to be the lookout. He didn't start burning out until we came through the gate..
That shit really sucks - Festivas are supposed to be invisible to assholes like that!!!!!!!
As a rule of thumb I never keep anything irreplaceable or of any value (10 year old CD player, anyone? ) in my car. People at my school have been known to do exactly what happened to DJ.
Luckily the loss was not too great...
Since my car is a piece of crap a few dents and body damage wouldn't piss me off too much, but if you have a nice car like DJ's I would unleash hell on those responible for the outrage.
I will be very careful next time I go to that pick 'n' pull, periodically checking on my car...
On a side note, were there any new Festivas there?
a red 1 came in this weekend.. so 3 red, 1 black with YOUR seats in it and a yellow 1 and the aspire with the suspension under it.. also the tilt column is in the black 1.
