  • Clear coats?

If im using an enamel paint, due I need clear coat? What is its purpose? What happens if I don't use it?

Someone should do a write up on how to paint your car (um...matt?) and give good details on what wet sanding is. And how its done right.

    Anyone with answers?

Already ahead of you. Posted it last month tells how I did my car from start to finish. http://www.fordfestiva.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=299

Not sure about enamel though, I used base/clear. The enamel shouldn't need anything over it. Check this site out for more info:http://www.autobody101.com/forums/index.php

the paint being "enamel" is meaningless. Enamel can mean a million things.

What is it based from? Urethane? Acrylic?

Is it a two-stage or single-stage paint. Two stage means basecoat then clearcoat over top.

Single stage has clearcoat built into it and is harder to apply b/c if you fuck up, your basically screwed. Two stage is better b/c u can sand the basecoat and then spray on the clear to have a really REALLY smooth finish.

Clear protects teh basecoat from chips & gives the car a deep glossy look. PRetty much all cars have clearcoat. Most red cars don't b/c clear can fade & turn yellowish over time making red cars look like shiet. I've also heard that yellow cars don't get clear either, but white, black, blue, green cars always get clearcoat from the factory. My blue festiva has clear fo sho.
