i tried searching and didn't come up with anything...

anybody know if an mx3/protege short shifter will work in a festiva? i'm probably gonna be converting my car to manual and i'm just trying to find out some viable options for a short shifter. from what i can see on projectmazda.com, it looks like it will but i just want to make sure.

any help would be appreciated. 8)

I think Wil will be able to give some input on this. From what I remember of him talking about them, they won't work.

He did give several other options awhile back, but they were fairly rare cars, cars that wouldn't be in your normal junkyard.

edit - Your best bet is to pickup the STS for the first gen Probe. A&A sells them for around $80 delivered.

I was thinking about bolting in an entire Honda shifter cradle, grafting the Honda shift rod to the Festiva rod, and using a Fastline shifter. It's the opposite of a short shifter. It's a tall shifter with stock throw. Of course, my car is a race car, not for street driving, so you may feel differently about having a cartoon shifter in your car.

I think doing the Honduh shifter swap would be more than 80 bucks.. that is unless your time is worth nothing.. and if it is, I got some work for ya in Pasadena..

PS. I love my STS.. real tight, close shifts.

simon talked to wil for me... looks like i'll be making a junkyard run to find a 323/protege/mx3 shifter to compare with the festiva shifter assembly. possibly even a swap into the festy... 8)
