can u fit exterior mirrors from a aspire onto a ford festiva??

  • #2
    Don't think so.

There isn't really much body-related stuff you can swap with the Festiva.

No thanks DJ, I have a GTX siting here and just thought they looked the same. I also have a spare set of Festiva power mirrors, I upgraded to the newer style from 90 and up.

I'm trying to install my power mirrors in my 1988 festy, i was under the impression that they were prewired for all options from the factory, but i'm not having any luck finding the pigtails for either side. i have the leads that come from the mirrors to under the dash, but no pigtails, am i missing something or is it because of the year difference of the car and the mirrors, i think they are the newest style for the festy...any help is appreciated.

They plug into the door harness. Remove the door panel and fish up the harness thru the mirror opening.

I seem to recall that some of the early Festiva's such as your didn't have that part of the harness. Was the plug for the switch there?
If the harness is there it terminates behind each of the front speakers. The one on the passenger side should be fairly obvious. On the driver's side thing were a lot easier to see and hook up with the speaker removed.

                      Good luck

I don't have a parts book to verify this, but what I've found by looking at about 40 Festivas in junkyards it that there are at least three and up to five different harnesses.

#1 88-89 "L" model which is missing the yellow-green wire for the tach, the sixth wire for the intermitent wipers, the power mirror wires, the rear wiper wires, the cargo light wires, and potentially some others.

#2 88-89 "GL" model has the full compliment of terminals.

#3 90-94 is not model dependant. They all seem to have all the terminals.

I haven't verified this, but suspect that the '89 Automatic has a different harness than the later fuel injected cars, and to a lesser extent, the '90-'94 automatics may have a different harness than the manual transmission cars.

What does this mean? Carbed "L" model guys are shut out from upgrading their cars with parts from deluxe models unless they want to graft additional circuits into their harnesses, or swap harnesses from a GL model.

Uncle Fester (88L) has the full compliment of wires. Int wipers, hatch light, mirrors, etc. But he was factory equipped with Rear Def, that might be the difference.

                            That might just be it.

My 89-L and the other 89-L I looked at didn't have rear defrost.

OK, well that answers my question, i simply don't have the harnesses. oddly enough i do have the harness for the switch i think, just not the leads for the mirrors. does anyone have a clear wire identification guide for the dual power mirrors? I'll splice away.
