  • vapor barriers

Most members here have removed their door panels at least once or twice. The black butyl tape that holds the flimsy polyethylene vapor barrier can be a real hassle to remove. Has anyone replaced their vapor barriers with a stronger reinforced vapor barrier? One that won't tear when pulled off. Like Cossella-Dorken Delta-Reflex? The aluminized surface reflects inward, so that hot stays hot, and cold stays cold. Nice!
Also, has anyone used a substitute for 1/8 round butyl tape? I am considering using draft sealant. The low-odor clear stuff that you caulk around windows in the fall, and peel off cleanly in the spring.

This is what I have been using.
When I did the right door on Bessie (to add the power mirrors), I carefully removed the plastic and left all the old butyl on the door.

I've used some plastic sheeting I had left over from a home project (Vapor-barrier) and Tuck Tape. http://www.homedepot.ca/product/red-...es-long/951143

Only problem is good luck ever getting the tuck tape off again!

I have wondered about Tyvek. NCFestiva was harvesting ones from other cars, Dodge IIRC.

interesting that neither of my jdm festivas had vapor barriers. 4GREEN has them listed for under 2 bucks and kia parts show clear and tinted vapor barriers for 1996 and up prides.

Finally got around to cutting out my three vapor barriers. Now, I just have to buy a couple of tubes of removable draft sealant.

I have asked the upholstery guy for a leather quote. Here is a sketch of what I want the door cards to look like.

I thought I would post a pic of the vapor barrier before I covered it with the black door card. I ran a bead of draft seal before placing the barrier.
I once did an entire room with the same stuff. I thought I was in a spaceship!
