I'd like to put a quick disconnect assembly on the steering wheel on the Festiva we race in the 24 Hours of Lemons, in order to do this we need to figure out what the spline count is on the steering shaft so we can remove the current wheel, purchase a adapter and then purchase a 3 bolt wheel...Went through the shop manual and that didn't have any info, went through the Haynes manual and that didn't have it...I found one place that mentioned it might be a 40 tooth spline on the steering assembly, but one place and really mentioned as an aside doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy...So the former owners of the car mentioned this would be a great forum for info...

you have to buy a racing steering wheel hub, and the mated spline it comes with, then weld the spline onto the steering wheel column, and bolt the quick release hub onto whatever steering wheel you chose. None of the street cars I have taken apart ever have a nice splined shaft you could just mount a removable race wheel on out of the box.

Remove steering wheel, count splines. Firsthand knowledge is always best.

Nice thing about there being no airbags to deal with, a Festy steering wheel comes off pretty quick. Philips screwdriver and a wheel puller are all you need.
Get one that fits an RX7 and it should work.
also, Grant shows that Probe steering wheel kit fits the Festiva.

I've removed about a dozen steering wheels and never needed a wheel puller. Just rock it backand forth at 12 & 6, and 3 & 9, it'll come off.

My weekend project will be to take the wheel off and count the splines myself and see what it is myself...Thanks for the info from Grant about the Ford Probe / RX7 fiting...
