muffler

has anyone ever just cut their muffler off? if you have, how did it sound? and did you get any tickets for it? just wonder ing because my exhaust pipe rusted in half right behind the muffler and its rattling really bad. i know i should just buy a aftermarket muffler or something but i like to be different. :wink:

Its pretty loud without it but not so bad you would get pulled over. I drove the car I have now for about 4 months with the pipe rusted out of the back of the muffler. The only time it got annoying was when accelerating hard. A direct fit muffler for our cars is not very expensive and very easy to install.

about 3 months after i got my festy the small 1" hole got to be a huge 6" hole. it was loud but not too loud. kinda sounded like a small prop plane when downshifting. also when i cut off my cat had to drive around for a day because i have bought the wrong size pipe to replace it. open down pipe was very loud but i never got pulled over.

have a custom exhaust put on like i did

thanks guys. i may just keep rattling for a while now, because its not all that loud. the muffler thats on it is the original muffler that was on the car when it was bought new, and it looks like it. its pretty beat up. but we got 18 years of use out of it, so i'd say its about time i needed a new one :lol:

i love driving through them with my exhaust. If the path is clear ill have it in first and tach it up to about 4500 then let off that's when it gets about twice as loud

mine might as well be cut off. it's been this way for months and i've had no problem w/ being pulled over. it's not overly loud but like flowmaster said, if you are at high rpm's and let off the gas it get's quite a bit louder. it rattled for a little while too until the parts rattling together broke off.



i'll probably just take it off until i can afford a new one. probably have to replace almost all of it though. not enough time.

last summer my gf and i went on a vacation/roadtrip for a 2 weeks and we stayed at long beach washington for a couple days. driving on the beach and through shallow saltwater part of the time. probably the cause. wasn't smart but tons of fun. even better when my gf drove onto too dry of sand and got stuck. me and another guy picked up the front of the car and moved it out of the rut she made and then pushed it onto wetter sand. wish i had my camera then.

ill show the people who go to OSIV how loud my exhaust gets as long and its ok with everyone. scared the crap out of alot of people doing that. on a slow rise of RPMs its loud at low and about 4grand it starts to quiet out then i let off and people jump.

holy crap! :shock: and i thought mine was bad! what i was thinking about was just taking off the muffler and welding a straight pipe all the way out to the back. i don't know, its just a thought. and i'm really afraid of getting a ticket, because there is a city called Bartlett. they have a noise ordinance. and its enforced.

one OK is good enough for me. without letting off my friend guesstimated my exhaust hits 130 db when i step on it, so i might hit 160-170 not sure don't have a db reader. If anyone has one that is going bring it.

eventually i plan on getting a flamethrower kit for it. that will be fun
