  • white script light levers for early cars

I went to install the later style white script control unit on my 88 festy yesterday and found a bit of a problem. Though everything bolts up and plugs in, the headlights never turn off. Upon further inspection I noticed that the later unit has an additional plug. I just finished rewiring this entire car, had I known about this..... ugh.
Anyway, does anyone have a trick to put white scripted knobs on an early car? Possibly from another Mazda or something? I have updated the rest of my interior to post 1990, and this is the final piece to my puzzle.

i think PhoenixSHO had this same issue not long ago and figured out what the problem was but don't know if he got it sorted out.

Yeah, I haven't looked over both EVTM books side by side, but I'm pretty certain that the entire headlight system is wired differently in the early cars. This car has no headlight relay at all and the 1990 up cars do, so this late style switch isn't going to work without rewiring the car and that's not going to happen. I literally just put the dash back in this car yesterday. Haha. There has to be some compatible car out there with white script.

Interesting that an orange light tach cluster (pre 1990 and from a carbed car, I would presume?) connected perfect into my 93 EFI without any issues at all (except having to re-route the speedo cable). Good luck with this. I do know that I hate surprises.

Have you tried switching the leavers/stalks in to the '88 switch body?
Don't know , but that might work.
Is the new switch have intermittent wipers?

Yeah, the instrument cluster wiring is the same on all North American builds. European and Japanese instrument wiring is different, but can be made to work. I have a 110mph each cluster in Pedro that is from the U.K.

Yeah, I tried that last night. The wiper side is the same, it's the headlight stalk. It's built different and the headlight switch is in the combination switch in the body of the part that is attached to the steering column. The newer style has the switch in the actual lever and has much smaller gauge wiring. That switch is a low amperage switch that only controls the headlight relay. The part I'm looking for would have to come from a different Mazda vehicle. I may be stuck with an Orange script headlight switch. First world problems. Lol
