  • Cluster Schematics

I know tach cluster questions get asked all the time. Sorry to add to it.

From what I can see in my attempts to use the search feature, plenty of people are interested in getting a 323 gtx tach cluster to fit in their Festivas. Damkid gets hammered with questions, but since he didn't install the cluster in his car, he can't help out. That's not any fault of his, I'm sure he'd love to be able to give an answer after getting asked about it every time he post an interior pic. I searched for post by B6T also, but nothing pertains to the actual wiring.

I have a Mercury Tracer tach cluster that I got from sketchman. It's only an 85 mph speedo, but the plug arrangement is the same as the 323. It was installed in the parts car I got from him, but he had already removed it. Like the smart fella he is, he cut the harness behind the splices. This gave me a positive identification of which stock wires go to each wire on the cluster plugs. I had intended to compare this to my stock wiring, make a DIY schematic, relocate the pins, and FINALLY be able to give everyone a write-up on how to do this conversion.

What I didn't bank on, was the differences in the stock wiring between my 88 driver, and 92 parts car. There's a couple extra wires coming from the harness on the 92 that the 88 doesn't have. I've managed to track these down to the seat belt and rear defrost lamps. Out of the remaining wires, there are several that don't match up, as far as color codes are concerned. And of course I don't know the schematics of the Tracer wiring... I'm aware that I can go through and individually test each wire with each switch on the 88, and if I have to, that's what I will do. But i would very much rather not.

I've been trying to search out a schematic, or even simple homegrown wire identification, for an 88 Festi, and a 88-89ish Tracer. I've google the be-jesus out of the interwebs, and I'm just not having any luck. Is there ANY chance that someone here would have the information I'm looking for on each car? If I can get some dependable information, I'd love to be able to do a write-up for everyone on doing this re-pin for a swap.

Does it not say the purpose of each pin on the cluster printed circuit board?

I searched '"Mazda 323 GTX" cluster wiring'
Check this! Section C is what you are after. Page 26 of 67.

It has a few of the circuits labeled, but far from all that are needed.

Try mamma, the mother of all search engines. wrap unbroken strings in double quotes.
