  • Is there a definitive seat swap thread anywhere?

I've seen lots of seat swap threads, but does anyone have a compilation of
seats that can be swapped into these cars from other vehicles? There's been
a lot of posts stating "Escort seats will fit" without the years of Escorts being
listed or "I think someone said Protege seats will fit".

If some people that have done seat swaps would chime in I'd be happy to compile
a list in this thread. If you can tell me the years of the vehicles as well I can look
up interior pictures and exterior pictures of each car to give people an idea of what
seats they'd want and what to look out for in the junk yards and on Craigslist.

    Example:

    1992 Escort GT seat swap:

    How to make them fit:

    The seats:

    The car:

    1997 Ford Aspire

    How to make them fit:

    The seats:

    The car:

If anyone could chime in I think this thread could be helpful.

I managed to make Mitsubishi 3000 GT/Dodge Stealth seats fit, but it did require bracket custimization.

I have Aspire seats in mine. There is a good write up on it. Stupid simple to swap. My oldest son took the seats out of our 91 Capri and put in his car. I know there is only minimal information on that swap. The seats are not in the car as we are getting ready to tackle some rust in the floorboards, so not pictures.
I look at it this way. If you have a welder/grinder/cutoff wheel/ etc, basically any seat will fit.
      Whoa, that was fun!

If you have a solid rivet gun and a welder, you can fit any seat.
I managed to fit a pair of Hyundai Tiburon leather seats. Nice.

Mmmm...this was mainly for the people that don't have access to a welder.
Doesn't have to be a straight swap, but using the factory rails would be beneficial.

Thanks for the info so far guys

Practically no mod. I did have to enlarge the pivot hole on the escort back. Minor mod, IIRC it was only the next step on a step drill. I also added in the 4th spring on the festy base. The bracket is already there and I had extra springs. It makes the seat sit up a bit in the front, which seemed to me to be better. I say that without having sat in one with 3 springs. Certainly a vast improvement over original.

Dang, that seems easy enough then. So that's only the year 1990 (or is it 1990-199?) for the Tracer, Escort and Escort GT?

Mine came from a 93 escort wagon. 1438261310463.jpg I think the clue for escort seats is the ones that have a pictograph on the recline handle like the one on the left, the right being festiva.

Ah, very useful. Definitely narrows it down. Thanks a lot

I don't know how many different interiors came in wagons, but a member posted a photo recently of his seats which he got from a 93 wagon and they are identical. The vinyl back is a good match to festy vinyl( at least the 92L like mine) and only someone very attuned to festy seats will notice the mismatch in material.1438266758183.jpg
