  • Various questions

I know these should probably be somewhere else, separated in individual questions, but it would take forever.

Instrument clusters: Is there a festiva/Mazda 121/KIA pride in north America that shipped with the tach? Not really worried about the max mph. I've read conflicting responses from "not available in continental us" to "us only" to "UK only"...

The intermittent wiper switch, Which one should I grab? 323(Gt? Glx?) or 626?
Or out of a deluxed package fesitva of some kind? I'm looking for something that will require the least amount of wiring. Not really fond of electrical. Don't know anyone who is.

Since I'm going to have to have the steering wheel off to do the wiper switch...
might just as well do a swap for a 323 wheel. Should be a direct swap? Would I need a boss kit? I saw a thread on this where a 323 wheel was swapped and it looked really nice. Anything other than the stock festy wheel! (ugly as sin, or as the day is long)

Scored an 88 grill at the wreckers, going to have to see if I can get a second one to do the xpnsyd mod! "Someone" beat me to the electric mirror & all of the interior though. Grrrr.

They also got the split rear seats. Are those rare?

Well That should about cover it. rest assured I have scoured the boards for the answers and I'm not out to mis-post or post for stuff all ready answered.

    Cheers from Victoria!

    1. Yes 88-89 had a tach with orange lettering in the LX model. 90 had a white faced tach available. Both these are 85mph speedo's.

The intermittent wiper switch, Which one should I grab? 323(Gt? Glx?) or 626?

2.The 323 is a direct bolt on, really nice if you find the variable speed vrs. the intermittent.

    3. Should bolt right in along with other Mazda wheels.

    4. These were available in LX models, not so much rare, more like preferred!

Thanks! I'm so happy you answered all of that.

It makes my weekly mod goal much more feasible. I got the "missing" bracket for the center console installed so it's a lot less "wobbly". The grill I got had a snapped post that has the two part epoxy repair drying as we speak.

I've got some different grit emery paper, primer, black paint, and clear paint for the finishing touches. I'll repeat the process when I find a another 88-90 grill to donate a center piece. (talking about xpnsyd's 88 grill mod) I wonder if I can use the little side ones from my present newer grill? Seems a shame to be cutting up a perfectly fine grill though. :?

I also swapped the shifter knob for a nicer one from an escort. I had read that the knobs were a straight swap on this forum. All I need now is to make/buy/find a boot to complete the look.

I'm trying to do one mod a week!

you can use the center console from the same kind of escort you got the knob from, which includes drink holders and a nice looking boot that actually fits up to the shift knob. It takes some mods to fit it in, but I know todd00 has one on his car, and I have one as well, though its out of the car right now cause I've been working on the e-brake. try and bug todd00 to get some pics of his up. He put it on a while back, but we've yet to see pictures of it.
        No festiva for me ATM...

I've all ready installed the center console I got out an automatic. That's the bracket I went back for today.

I need to mod that to accept a CB I have lying around. All I need for that is an antenna mount. The mag mount makes my festy look like some oversize RC car.

I finished the grill! It looks damn sweet.

I'm sorry, but the standard grill always looked kinda like the car was sticking it's tongue out.

Now I have a spare grill though.

Has anyone else done the xpnsyd grill mod? I had a real hard time finding an 88 grill to begin with, (mine was broken, had to fix it) figured I've seen enough people just chop the cent re bar off the older style grill, someone has to have a chunk left over? I can buy it, pay for shipping, offer something up for trade, dunno, something? I'm unsure the center piece on the new style grill is the right thickness.

That & it seems a shame to just cut a perfectly fine grill, even if it looks like a tongue sticking out.

IdealSociety, It was your car indeed!

My neighbor has a 323 & he let me have a look, it's way nicer than the stock one. Was yours a hard thing to swap?

                        grill mod

Well I got a chunk of a new style grill. Going to attempt the xpnsyd mod. Didn't have time to take a long look @ it, just threw it in the trunk. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.
