  • HID kit install

So (after 2 years of checking) i got a pair of unbroken headlamps from the wrecker! I bought a real cheap HID kit off ebay and some 3m paint protective film. I installed the new headlamps and aimed them to match where the old ones were aimed. (I previously had 9007 bulbs installed which is a big improvement over 9004's). The new HID's were pointed at the floor on low beam. Had to spend a lot of time aiming them to get them nice. Because our 9004's have a high and low beam in the same bulb and HID's cant do that what they do is point the bulb down for low beam and up for high beam using an electromagnet i believe. Couple issues with that. One is that the low bean is too low and the high beam is too high. Second is that with headlamps off the bulbs will flop all over and break while your driving, with daytime running lights on my car makes a terrible buzzing noise from by the battery and the lights flicker. So you have to remember to turn the low beams on at startup which is hard to do when its the middle of the day. Because i drive almost exclusivly with low beams on i aimed them so the low beams were still low but kinda nice. That means that my high beams shoot way up and the LOWER cut-off of the beam is 20-30 feet in front of the car... These lights are sooooooooo bright though! Its totally worth it! Amazing light! Very narrow/straight ahead beam though, you dont see much of the ditch, but that was the same with my 9007 bulbs. I can see for like a mile and a half with the high beams! Lights up road signs and pavement lines real good. It is possible to aim them nice so you dont blind other people, i have gone in front of my car to check while aiming them and they are fine for oncoming traffic and nobody has flashed their lights at me in the week i have had them. I cant speak to their longevity as i have only had tem a week. I put the 3m film on the glass headlamps to hopefully cushion rock impacts a bit. My headlamps break so fast from rocks... I always glue them up for as long as i can to keep water out because good used ones are so hard to come by. Anyway, here is the kit i bought. http://www.ebay.ca/ulk/itm/400697559927
I got the 55watt kit. *Its CHEAP! Which means not great quality just so you know. I wouldnt be surprised or dissapointed if these only lasted 6months. This is an experiment cos i wasnt gonna spend $200-$300 on a real kit if it wasnt gonna work.*

I bought the cheap ones for my Nissan and they lasted for over a year and the only reason they went bad is because the Ballast got wet. The only thing I didn't like is the super cheap ones came with Halogen High Beams and it is absolutely horrible. Spend a little extra to get both HID if you have a dual beam bulb.

Ok, i will double check to make sure mine are somewhere that stay relatively dry, thanks! I dont remember where i put the passenger side one... Lol.
Halogen high beams eh? Wow... I have also heard of ones that have a tube that slides half way over the high beam to dim it for low beams. But they burn out right away. Something to do with heat.... Who woulda thunk it? Lol.
