  • DIY Side Skirts

Just a little heads up for anybody trying to get some side skirts on their festiva, this was super cheap (like 40 bucks) and all the supplies can be had at autozone and lowes/homedepot.
There's a guy online that did something similar with his volvo wagon that gave me the idea, but he used polypropylene planters for the end caps which I didn't like since no paint will stick to that.

Basically, the side skirts are just some rain gutter material from lowes, it's 5 dollars per section and you'll need 2 sections as one is not long enough for both sides.
You'll also need the end caps that go with the rain gutters to make it look cleaner, those were about 3 dollars each.

We're having trouble loading this page. Please try another one.

I cut the rain gutter a bit to change the angle that it sits on the car, you can adjust this to taste if you want but I cut where the red line shows in the pic, this edge sits against the pinch weld and butts up pretty nice.

I glued the end caps onto the gutter with loctite PL premium because that's what I had lying around and it's really strong shit, but you can use whatever, you may have to clamp it to hold in place since the rain gutter has been cut and it doesn't really stay in place anymore.

The ends are held in place with self tappers into the fenders and the middle is supported by a steel bracket I bent out of some sheet metal, one side goes into the pinch weld with a self tapper and the other end supports the rain gutter from behind. I used plastic 1/4in push rivets from autozone to secure the middle section in place.
    The brackets look like this

Anyways yeah, I couldn't find any side skirts that I really liked so I just made some.
More pictures coming tomorrow once there's some light so you can see how they are mounted, but here's one of the complete project.

I like it. I was in the same boat as you didn't really like what was available so I made my own.
You did a good job on yours and it's a cheaper and easier option then fiberglass like mine. Oh and love the wheels and tire strech and that color!

I'm not sure how to quote multiple posts on my phone so sorry for the multiple replies lol.
Yeah I'm new just got this car last year and have been slowly adding a bunch of crap to it since.

Bad news though those rain gutters have gone wavy, I think being black and the sun hit them, they got all soft

Went to home depot and found something good though I think this will work better and look better.
It's roof flashing, the profile on it is pretty sweet though.

Will update once I get this stuff bolted on there.

Good news, I found a can of paint at Walmart that perfectly matches the aqua color of the festiva, rustoleum American accents 2x, color is called gloss seaside paint number is 280726

Picture next to the car, it's slightly lighter I think, will be easier to tell in the day.

Got any pictures of how you did this? Looks amazing.

If your talking to me I started with this

Found them in the jy for 14 bucks they where really ruff but didn't matter I cut them and half and cut out the section where they fit the body because the festiva bends in in wards and the capri out.
I ended up using most of the skirt to make my plug for my mold to cast them in glass. This set was kinda of experiment and I ended up gassing them straight to the car. I saved them for my next car and I'm reworking them so they are attached with 3m 2 sided tape. And screws in the wheel wells
If I could produce this set for a decent price I would but time and materials are high and I would have to get 400 bucks or so to make it worth my time. And even then I wouldn't be making much.

Hey thumbs up to mcp1991...very creative!

Also...if it's okay to ask...william...could you give us an idea of what it took to make/buy your side skirts?
                            Thanks to all in advance!

Just a bunch of time some matt and resin, jellcoat .
The capri skirts where a great start and made my life much easier than starting with expanding foam and a file. If I didn't work so much I would love to produce skirts and flairs.
Oh and not sure if anyone noticed i deleted the body line because the skirt slopes down and I didn't like the way the body line showed this . I could have easily made the top of the skirt level but liked the slope.
