  • Peel-N-Seal Warning

Do not use Peel-N-Seal in the cargo space in the area over your muffler.
It might be ok of you have really good insulation over your muffler but it's probably best not to use it all on the right side of the cargo area.
I have a mess to clean up tomorrow in Rosie where it melted the sticky stuff under the aluminum.

1990new, was the heat shield in place that goes over the muffler and attaches to the body? I was planning to use the same, but hate to hear of any potential problems

      FestYboy,

Sorry for the confusion, that should read Peel-N-Seal. If a moderators sees this maybe he will change it so future searches will find this thread in relation to this product.
Here is a Lowes link that shows the product that I bought:
        http://www.lowes.com/pd_154017-81326...ductId=1018733
It's purpose is for roof flashing around chimneys etc.
If you do a google search you will find several youtube videos of how people have used it for sound deadening. It comes in wider widths also. (There are also pictures of it installed in the photobucket link in my first Rosie project thread's first post.

Yes there is a piece of aluminum above the muffler that I suppose is the heat shield, but I don't see any type of insulation production, just the air space.

My catalytic converter and exhaust system got really hot when I first starter up the brand new engine when only two of the fuel injectors were working. I think this may have caused my problem.

There are spots where the black gooey stuff is oozing between the seams. I attempted to peel a piece of it up with my fingers but it looks like I may have to heat it to get it off. For now, I put aluminum sticky tape over the seams were it was oozing through and I'm going to monitor it to see if it gets hot again. I will also see if I can add some type of insulation to the heat shield above the muffler to may sure it doesn't happen again.

FestYboy...Not sure we are talking about the same thing... do you mean window flashing for sound deadening?

Also...Can you please modify this thread to read Peel-N-Seal instead of Peal-N-Seal?

On another note.. I recall that you advised me about body work and frame alignment checking when my aqua "Tootsie" was totaled about three years ago. You may recall that I sold her for $2500 after I got her straightened out and replaced the bumper fender and hood.
Believe it or not, Tootsie has been involved in two accidents since I sold her but she is still on the road. One was a rear end that bent her bumper and trunk latch area. The other was a T bone hit on her right front side which bent the strut, inner tie rod end and mangled the fender quite a bit. I gave the lady a couple of used struts that I had, she bought the inner tie rod end at autozone and a couple of friends of hers replaced the parts and straightened out the fender reasonably well. She doesn't look quite as pretty as she did when I had her but she is still going strong.

Here's a link to photos of the last accident:
          http://s1222.photobucket.com/user/19...sie%20Accident

Tootsie is the one that I bought from a Junk Yard for $375 several years earlier.

You want pure butyl, not mixed with any asphaltic product.
            How to tell? Simple test.
Smell. Butyl does not stink like asphalt does.
Only, the more expensive ice & water shield products do not contain asphalt.
Rich people have their roofs speced for total coverage with wide rolls of ice & water shield. Most homeowners usually only get the first three feet done above the eave. That is where ice dams occur in the event of insufficient insulation or venting.

I bought automotive seconds for my Festiva. It is wonderfully quiet inside.

The window flashing is similar to what Brave is talking about, non asphalt heat and weather shield.

I was wondering what your automotive second was and how big a muffler it was. Did you use it on a stock exhaust system? I am trying for wonderfully quiet also.

Is this for sound deadening or waterproofing on a Festy?

blowby, the best places to put it is inside the doors, headliner and rear body panels. I got mine from eBay from deimos_deals.

The Peel-N-Seal that I put in Rosie does make her really quite, but if I had to do it again I would pay the extra for the butyl product that brave put in his and not have to worry about it. But I also would not put it places that are close to the exhaust system.
My muffler is stock and it has not gotten hot like it did when I first started Rosie up with the new motor that had the flexplate installed backwards and half the injectors not working. The engine is running great now but she will need another transmission before I can say that here restoration is complete.
