So, since buying our first Festiva and the first car my wife and I bought together, it's been driven but in the last week we have started buying parts as we're embarking on rehabbing the car.

I thought that if when we buy parts we take a few days to spray four or five shaker can layers of clear so they won't rust and would put a little pop in the job as opposed to just seeing parts. So, is the clear acrylic enamel gloss a good paint to use for this purpose?

Secondly, as I have removed the interior door panels and the back hatch panel to clean and do window repair there is a quarter inch thick black rubber adhesive around the perimeter of the hatch and door where the panels made contact. How do I remove this black sticky gummy quarter inch bead as I do not want to eat through the paint gloss at this time I'm not ready to paint and I cannot find something that will remove the black gummy?

Thanks anybody and everybody for your help

Xylene will remove the gum and not hurt the paint. Do this outside!!!!! The fumes are nasty.

i justb got done using duplicolor clear gloss over a small repainted piece. couple coats does ad a deeper shine to the paint. as for the butyl caulk bead on the doors, this isn't to hold the panels but to hold a heavy plastic vapor barrier sheet between the door cavity and the trim panel. if this plastic wasn't there, some PO musta removed it.
