  • ABS plastic door panels/cards

Hello Festiva junkies. Pretty soon here I will be working on another project. You guessed it, ABS door cards. I had a miata a while back that I did this on and they turned out fantastic. I want to similar cards on the 'Stiva. I'm thinking I want pull straps, new handles and stock handles/cups. My question is, has it been done here yet?

Stands for Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. Becoming a common acronym to throw around the more 3d printers take off as the majority of there prints are with either abs or pla plastics. Simply put if you look at any plastic object around you the odds are it is made with abs plastic

Carbon fiber is also an option. I thought about acrylic but that was a brief thought. I'm trying to pride sheets of abs right now but my car is too far away to take a measurement.

You could also use PVC foam boards(Celtec/Sintra/Komatex) for these projects. They are much lighter than ABS and also much easier to work with. These products can be found at most sign supply shops. They range from 1mm to ~25mm thick. They begin to become pliable >73 degrees C....so it is nice to heat and shape. It has a nicer texture than most ABS and comes in lots of different colors. It is also less expensive than ABS.

I love how this forum is full of great ideas and guys that jump in with advice like this. Thank you! I'd love to learn more about plastics and composites. So many great products and uses for them.

I started working on the door panels today. The drivers side is cut and ready. Tomorrow I'll do the passenger side. I found a large sheet of material at work that worked out perfectly. It's plastic in the center maybe 1/8" with a thin layer of aluminum on the outside. It's light weight and easy to cut. I'll post pics soon.

This is gonna be sweet, I've been wanting to do something similar so to add a better door speaker mount. I've seen this done for speakers before but was years ago couldn't possibly remember the thread. If it turns out nice you looking to make a few sets?

Here's the drivers side. Passenger side didn't get worked on today. The top cut is uneven but I'll be adding a small piece of rubber to fix that.
