Ok the 3 different colors and dents are really starting to get on my nerves. I can't afford to get it painted so I'm going to try to do it myself. This is my first attempt at painting a car. I've read Matt's how to and got a book on it. I think I've got a good idea how to paint now. Now I just have to decide on what color.

I'd like to do a metallic silver or Grey. Ive seen a dark metallic Grey on some Tc's that I like. I'm looking for suggestions or pics on what color to do.

After reading Matt's write up I was going to try to use the same brand he used. But there are no auto body supply stores around here.(at least none that I know of) So is there any online store that I can get it from?

I think that's all of the questions I have for now. But Ill probably have more in a week or 2.

There is no NAPA or CarQuest, no local chains at all nearby?

Even Wallyworld has some basic stuff, fiberglass,sandpaper up to 2000 grit now even.

The new premium Bondo filler isn't that bad, vs the heavy
crap it used to be. You want to try to pop the dents out.
Festy metal is thin enough to pop out with the suction cup puller
for most areas.

You can do ok paint with rattlecans, esp primer, but do you have access
to an aircompressor and paintgun?

you can even make a decent topcote with spraycans, if you have to.

Yeah we have a napa and advance here. I can get everything I need to do the body work I'm just looking for a place to get the paint from. I have a compressor and spray gun. Most of the guys around here just rattle can flat black their cars. It looks good on some but I don't want to do it to my festy.

if your looking to do a budget paint job do the "$50 pain job"... you don't need a spray gun, and its easeier. not to mention lots cheaper, and very durable. thats how i did my car... i still havn't made a "how to" but search for the $50 paint job thread my matt, and look through This thread, towards the end of the first page and the second page has some pics/info from me doing my car.
my car was just in an accident, and the new paint held up great!!

just keep in mind: painting isn't the hard part, the prep work is! next time i do a car i will leave more time for prep work than to paint...

I've got everything I need respray it. I just need to find someplace to buy to buy the paint from and make up my mind on the color. :roll:

ebay has gallons of car paint for around $50, Murry's has it also, but the colors are limited.

Its valid, but isn't a good choice for metallic. Solid colors,
and plenty of coats with plentiful wetsanding, would be fine.

Look for almost any paintstore enamels, from reading that $50 paint
forum post brings out that paint is the Canuck equal to Rustoleum.

also look around for addin hardeners. dries faster, and harder. Some
enamels dry slow, leading to sandpaper clogging when wetsanding. Its rubbery till the solvents cure.

Really, check out Farm Stores if any are nearby. Tractor paint
is a good hard enamel, and Ford/NH Blue, MM Yellow or IH Red
don't look too bad. Stay away from JD or Oliver Greens. Not a good
look

for thinners, mineral spirits can be used, but check each brand
for the paint you will use before you spray the Festy. Use an old test
panel/fender to check how it sprays. you can use Xylol or Toluol
with most for faster dry times, but it, and that urethane hardener,
even if it has a smell that can bother some. Get a real filter paint mask.
Your lungs will thank you in 20 years.

Ok I feel stupid now. I didn't know that napa sells paint. The salesman came into work today and I started talking to him. Turns out I get a little bit of a discount on napa stuff cause of work. So he let me borrow his chip book and now I'm sitting here trying to decide on the color. :roll:

I've had NAPA mix paint for me several times - they do a good job.
