  • Carpetting.

Hi all, i have a 1990 Ford festiva and well lets say the previous owner wasn't very car friendly as there were some terrible things growing on the carpet. After trying every carpet clean known to mankind (exaggeration) i decided to take it out and get some new carpetting. However its a lot harder to find decent carpetting then i orginally thought. So anyway i was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get molded carpetting or if i could use regular house carpetting and just cut it to fit?

i had changed the carpet in my car for a darker grey colour, this is about the best pic i got right now

it feels a lot like that mini put carpet, i just took the stock carpet out layed the other carpet on top and cut it to size, and along the way cut holes for the bolts etc. and tried to get it as smooth as possible but there are some wrinkles but not too bad

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Wow that looks pretty good. as for the website that's a loy of help but i guess i am too cheap cause $129 would kill me lol. but it is by far the cheapest I've seen it so far. Has anyone just painted the floor? i am about a week away from doing that unless i find some real cheap carpet. Thanks for all the help

I just left mine bare after I pulled the carpet out. I cleaned the floorboards up and left them blue. I don't see the point in carpet in Festy really.

Then again I don't drive mine to work or anything like that.

I think if I did feel a need for something more, I'd just get some nice rubber floor mats for each footwell and leave it at that.

ya dont see much of the carpet anyway, if ya have large floormats front and back. carpet in cars is kinda stupid really, with all the dirt and stuff so easily tracked in. especially in winter months. :?

Does carpeting help with the deadening of the outside sound much though? I'm thinking about ripping all my carpeting out, attempting to smooth it out, then spray in black bedliner spray. I did that with my rear cargo area, and it looks sweet.

or you could do what I did and rhino line it.... I did the high pressure spray, but you can get it in quart roll on or rattle cans- I did my receiver hitch in rattle can bedliner and it looks good...

I pulled mine out of the Jeep after it got wet and smelled like a bit, wet dog during the summer months. I did the same thing on Casper when I got it.

how did you paint your dash and with what? I'm afraid of doing mine because of all the old armor all- I don't want it to chip- has yours chiped or flaked?

First I remove all the interior including the dash and the carpetting. I cleaned the dash and all other plastics with T.S.P. (All purpose heavy duty cleaner) and I then dry it. Then I painted the plastics with 3 layers of Dupli Color Vinyl & Fabric paint and make it dry for 24 hours. For the carpet I well cleaned it with a brush and a good sweeper. Then I painted it with 2 layers of Dupli Color Vinyl & Fabric paint and make it dry for 24 hours. During the time that there was nothing in my car I painted with gravelguard so that the floor will not be attacked by rust if water seeps inside. You can see the gravelguard in the next picture (I removed the roof for a better view LOL).

My paint did not chiped of flaked and it make a year since I have painted it. I did not paint the door panel (but I think we can do this too) those are leather one. It is my grandmother who made them
