  • Favorite FREE or Cheap mods?

Searched but dodn’t find a thread.

Curious what kinda cool stuff people have came up with on the extremely cheap or free side of things.

    Best junkyard crossover finds?

  • #2
Well the Junkyards around me are not very cheap nowadays so I only go on 50% days but here are a few that I have installed and the estimated price it cost me.

    (New) Hood Struts - $20
(Junk Yard) Escort Dome Light with LED Bulbs - $12
(Junk Yard) Protege Seats - $75
(New) Kia Rio Strut Mounts - $45
    (Used) 14" Wheels - $80
    (New) 165/55/14 Achilles Tires - $220
(New) Struts - $45 (After an awesome rebate on RockAuto.com)

A good way to bring out the shine of the old paint is to get some rubbing and polishing compound and go to town. It is amazing how shiny 25 year old paint can get with just a little work. Try not to press too hard though because some spots may be thin.

The Advanced Shift linkage mod is one of the first things I do when I buy a Festiva. Its cheaper than replacing the original bushings, you can get everything needed at a hardware store, and it stays tight over time. Really improves the shift feel. I add a cheap eBay Civic short shifter at the same time. If you like a taller shifter but with a shorter throw then you can cut and weld a short section in the original shifter between the pivot ball and bushing area.

I have yet to drive one with a Short Shifter because I don't want to loose my FESTIVA knob.

I have never done the Advance Shift Linkage mod either... I did add some zip ties to the shift linkages in my little brothers car because he was complaining about it vibrating too much lol

If you Search Rio Rack, there is a great thread about it. I can find it later if you'd like.

Door bumperettes from a Mazda 323

Take a hacksaw to the junkyard and saw & chisel them out.

They push into the hole in the top part of the door frame.

Repainting the factory L bumpers black makes a huge difference for almost nothing.

I resprayed mine with a dollar store gloss black rattle can after spraying them down with engine degreaser to get em clean and they look just as good now as they did 4 months ago

The search gets wacked out when you wanna search anything with 3 letters. put a star on the end of words like "Kia*, Rio*" and it'll pick it up SOMETIMES.

I found It will also pick up 3 letter words if it used with at least 1 longer word, so "Rio+Rack" will work
