shift boot replacement options

I just put a short shifter in my 90 festiva, and absolutely love it. However with the dumpy looking stock shift boot it looks like crap. I looked at the parts store today, and all they had were rubber accordian replacement type shift boots. They did have one nicer leather boot, but it's base was elasticized to fit around something. what options are there out there for those of us with floor mount shifters? Also I know there are some festies that came with a stock console that surrounds the shift lever, how hard are these to come by?

i'm pretty sure all GL 5-spds. had the console as part of that trim level. this was just an extended version of the normal storage bin. the boot looks the same but is actually different due to mounting it in the console so if u find one in the jy buy the whole works and make sure to get the U-shape bracket that's screwed into the floor towards the back end of the console. i remember FMS had a few of these brand new in grey awhile back.

just remembered, there are 2 U-brackets you'll need. remove knob. remove screws (A). do not remove screws (B). [img][/img]

That is the console I have , but my boot looks nothing like that , my boot is too small and will not fit right in the boot hole , it just falls thru .

yeah, that is the type of console I am looking for, thanks for the info. I still don't like that shift boot, but it does look like there may be more options as far as shift boots go.

still loking for suggestions though as to what boots will fit and how to mount them.

Yes those are factory boots that came on the full consoles. Hard to find though I have been looking for a tan/brown one.

i suspect someone might of just mounted the console over the the basic stand alone boot that just lays on the carpet. the console boot has a different flange at its base that is untextured and is slotted. this boot is held to the underside of the console with a retaining ring and also has an extended tip. the boot on left is the basic stand alone. the one on rt is the console piece. do i win the no sh*t sherlock holmes award?[img][/img]

I am using the auto console, short shifter, Capri knob and Capri leather boot.. the piece that holds the stock atx boot in place will work on this boot.

I have it twisted a little in this pic, but you get the point.

Here's mine, the console, boot and knob are from a '91-'96 escort... takes a little drilling and you have to fab a rear bracket if you want it to fit really tight, but it has cup holders .

thanks every one so far. lots of good ideas. I think what I am looking for is a boot more like xpnsyd is describing. I like the softer boots, and want to stay away from the rubber accordian styled boots that are stock. htchback, I do like the cup holders option, I may go that route depending on what I can find at the yard( if ther is a auto festy console, or an escort console in better condition). did you ever figure a way to finish the space where the cubby hole is? I think that a synthesis between th two is were I'll go. escort console which should be able to mate onto a soft type boot just as well as the festy auto console does. I'll let you all know how it goes. Also I am still open to suggestions. Thanks,
