bought the kit from autoloc. im going to start this spring. but before i get myself into something i cant finish, has anyone dont this before? is it hard? sould i just get a body shop to do it or should i do it myself, becasue a local bodyshop quoted me 1500 for a flat gray paint job and the install of the poppers. any input would be nice. thanks.

seems to me like your local shop is ripping off a person they think has no knowledge of it. The kit is pretty easy to install, but I would still take the time to remove your handles and locks yourself and have the body shop weld up the wholes and hit them with some primer. If you want your doors to match thats your option. I know the body shop I go to would charge me about 35 a door for color, the other stuff probably would cost about 100 bucks a door. Just the body work I mean. But then again its up to you and your personal knowledge of what it takes as far as wiring. Also what kit did you get? Because if you just got the basic door power kit it has alot less electrical then the kit with alarm.
If I were you I would find a cheaper body shop to do it. You also could install the poppers now without shaving the doors, then get them shaved when the weather is better.

I agree with Gforcefd, dont get ripped off.
Just getting those handle door groves straight is the hard part. And then getting it straight to match the body door curve is a little hard but 1500 wow !!! ouch
I would go for it, but shop around or have a friend do your welding.
I would love to see shaved doors on a Festy.

The Festiva doors are VERY easy to shave... It's all flat! It's just cutting out the hole that the handle sits down in, gettig a plate behind it and welding it up... Fill, sand, primer....
The hatch is a little different... That involved a lot of cutting, filling and welding (and then customizing the holder that it fit in to seal it all up and go right and frenching the plexiglass in place)...
And FWIW... I think shaving the car (all of it... the bodylines, the gas filler, the hatch, the doors....) was by far the best looking mod on my car.Simon - pimptiva.com
